I lay on my back in the grass starring up at the blue sky. The clouds drift by and there's a slight warm breeze, the sun is shining. Right now I feel so peaceful I could fall asleep, but my peace is interrupted by my mother calling my name. "Arizona! Come here!" I lay there silent for another minute or so until I hear my name again. "Arizona! Come here this minute!" "Coming!" I scream. I get off the ground and stand up and start to walk inside. Once I get inside my mom says "I'm going out, can you make the pie? And can you also watch Lana? I'll only be a few hours." "Yeah whatever." I reply. I'm not gonna tell her that I actually had plans to go shopping with my best friend Claire. "Are you sure?" she asks. "Yeah" I reply. This is how things work at my house, if my mom needs to go out for baking supplies (She owns a coffee shop) I have to stay home and watch my 6 year old sister, Lana. She's not much of a bother but she always wants to play tea party. Bleh. Most thirteen year old girls like me are out hanging with there friends, reading or playing sports or something. But if I mention how I never get time to myself, my mother goes into this huge lecture about how it's for the good of the household. Anyway, I'm stuck babysitting Lana and baking pie.
I quickly text Claire
"Hey sorry, can't come shopping, stuck babysitting :("
She replies within seconds
"That sucks :( I guess I'll text Lily"
I don't reply. I feel angry at my mother. Lily is one of my other close friends and me her and Claire usually hang out. It feels like I'm always the one who gets left out.
My mom pops into the bathroom to touch up her makeup, grabs her purse and car keys and she's out the door. As she's leaving she yells "Get along girls!"
The second my mother leaves Lana is whining. "I'm hungry Arizona" "Lana, dinner will be soon" I say. "I'm really hungry! Mom said you have to feed me." Not wanting to start a fight I warm up some mozza sticks in the microwave and stick her in front of the TV. Now to start making some pie!
I take out all the ingredients I need and busy myself mixing, rolling and cleaning up as I go. When it's finally done I put it in the oven and set a timer for 25 minutes. I should probably make some dinner.. "Lana!" I call "What?" she snaps back. "What do you want for dinner?" I say. "Noodles!" She yells back. It seems that's all she ever wants. Whatever, it's the weekend. I take out some Kraft dinner and a few hot dogs.
I boil some water on the stove and dump the noodles in. Then I put the hotdogs in the microwave for a minute, take them out and slice them up. Once everything is ready I bring Lana her dinner. Then I go upstairs to eat in my room and get some homework done.

I don't know when I fell asleep but when I wake up all the lights are off and it's 11:00pm. I go downstairs to make sure Lana isn't still watching TV. Everything is locked up and the dishes are all done. I walk back upstairs quietly, climb into my bed and drift off to sleep..
