Uchiha Sasuke was born with a weird constitution. He was hyper sensitive to any sort of physical contact.
A physical constitution which made him feel extreme discomfort when someone is in a close proximity to him.
As a child, he was never able to fit in with his group of peers. With only ever feeling repulsion with even the slightest of touchs. There was never a time he let his guard down outside of his house, always trying his hardest to keep away from the source of his discomfort.
Before he realized it, he was already too closed off to even try to get along with someone outside of his family.
After all, unlike his family who understood him and never tried to get too physically close, every other person he'd ever met tried to touch him in some way - be it a light tap on his shoulder or full on slinging their arm around his shoulders. It was very mortifying and unbearable.
Not wanting to feel such repulsion, he visiblly put an effort to appear as hostile as possible, trying his hardest to keep everyone far away from him.
This was the norm in the life of Uchiha Sasuke.
Or at least.. That's how it was supposed to be...
After entering highschool, he was determined to appear even more hostile than ever before. And he certainly succeeded in keeping all his classmates and peers far away from himself.
With an exception of that one eccentric blonde by name Uzumaki Naruto.
This blonde who sat in the seat in front of him, was so very adamant on trying to have a conversation with Sasuke that he wouldn't give up no matter how much Sasuke ignored him, even the death glares that reduced everyone else to a whimpering mush had no effect whatsoever on this blonde who causally countered it with a bright happy grin.
This guy.. How very formidable..!
It was close to a month now since he's been followed around by that blonde who never stops blabbering about, even though Sasuke has been thoroughly ignoring him.
Just one thing about him stood out in Sasuke's mind - the fact that he never once invaded his personal space. This sort of comfortable physical distance, he'd only ever experienced it with his family before.
He figured the blonde would try to get cozy with him the moment he let his guard down though, and sadly wondered if he too would think Sasuke was unreasonable for finding it uncomfortable and leave him like all the others did in his childhood.
If he was just going to go through that all over again, he'd rather be hated right from the very beginning instead.
He was almost at his wits end, but the blonde still blabbered on in the seat in front of his, carefreely talking about a newly opened dessert shop.
Sasuke didn't even realize when he snapped and yelled at him, completely annoyed, "I don't even like sweets! Why the hell do I have to listen to this?!"
Naruto gaped at him wide eyed for just a moment, before breaking into a face splitting grin, "You finally talked!! Awesome! Tell me what you like then", he leaned forward excitedly.
Sasuke flinched, reflectively moving back to avoid contact with the blonde, glaring and staying quiet after realizing that he ended up talking to him.
It wasn't the first time Naruto had noticed it, he's been interested in Sasuke and watching him for around a month now, since the beginning of their highschool - And one thing that stood out about the raven was that he visiblly avoided any sort of physical contact with everyone around.
Naruto had no idea about why he did this, but he had no plans of making the raven feel any type of discomfort. So he tactfully moved back, continuing to talk about what he likes, even when the raven refused to reply to him adamantly ignoring him again.
Sasuke expected him to finally invade his personal space and get annoyed when Sasuke shows clear discomfort to it. But surprisingly, that didn't happen.
Naruto never once tried to close their physical distance, even though he was so stubborn about being friends with Sasuke.
Sasuke had no way of knowing what would happen if he were to let his guard down, he was scared of getting close to someone only to disappoint them and get hurt in the process.
But maybe... Just maybe, Naruto was different from everyone else so far.
He had no way of stopping such a hope from swelling up in his chest.
It was a little late but he decided to gather up some courage, and bravely -albeit nervously- step out of his shell.
Telling him everything about why he never wanted to be around anyone.
He was accepted with such a bright carefree grin, that it completely blew away all of his worries.
He made his very first friend in life, someone who understood him and patiently tolerated him just like his family.
Naruto fell in love for the first time in his life, when he saw that one true smile on Sasuke's face - a smile so blindingly beautiful that it made him want to protect it even at the cost of his own life.
