Forbidden Love

Chapter 9

Anna

"No!" I screamed as I sat up in my bed. "No" I repeated under my breath. The nightmares haven't stopped, they've actually gotten worse. I guess I've just been really stressed about Brandon's court hearing next week. I knew his dad hired him a really good lawyer, and I was so scared that he was going to win. I would never be able to feel safe knowing that he was free.

I couldn't fall asleep again, so I called Maya. "Hey babe, nightmare again?" she answered after the third ring. "Yeah, a really bad one. Did I wake you?" I asked, noticing the time. "No, I was already up." she replied. "It's 2am, are you okay?" I asked concerned. "I'm fine, I couldn't sleep so I've just been writing." she assured me.

"Do you want to talk about it? The nightmare?" she asked when I didn't reply. "Not really, I just wanted to hear your voice." I said. That sounded very cheesy. "I'm going to try to go back to bed." I added because I was still very tired. "Okay, I'll be here if you need me" she replied.

"Maya?" I asked before hanging up. "Yes babe." she answered. I really loved it when she called me that. "Could you stay on the phone until I fall asleep?" "Yeah, I'll do that. Night Anna." she replied. I put the phone on my nightstand, and sleep came easily knowing she was there.

Maya

"Anna?" I asked after about 10 minutes to see if she was still awake. When I got no reply, I hung up and went to the kitchen for some water. "Hey honey." my mom said, coming out of her room. "You couldn't sleep?" she asked sympathetically. "No. I'm so tired, but I keep tossing and turning until I eventually just get up." I answered, walking to the cabinet.

"Should I call Dr. Waverly in the morning to see if we can adjust your sleeping medication?" she asked, wrapping her arms around herself in the cold kitchen. "Yeah, I think so." I replied. "Well, I couldn't sleep either, so do you want to watch a movie?" "Okay, I'll get some blankets." I answered, giving her a small smile.

I got two blankets from my bed and went to the living room. "I made some tea." my mom said as I sat down on the couch. "What do you want to watch, we can rent something?" she asked turning on the tv. "Let's just see what's on." I replied. I didn't really care what we watched, I just wanted to distract my mind for a while.

"Okay, let's see." she said, flipping through the channels. "Ooh, the parent trap is starting or the original Spiderman but we missed the first 10 minutes." "The parent trap it is." I said, laying my head in her lap. "Good choice" she agreed.

Anna

"Hey dad." I said, sitting down at the kitchen table with my cereal. "Hey Anna" he replied, looking up from his newspaper. "How did I even get to the hospital? You know, from his house." I asked. "Are you sure you want to talk about that, now?" "Yes. I can't remember anything and I want to know." I pried.

"The neighbours heard a lot of shouting and went into the street to find out what was going on. They saw Brandon running away and they knew he was a shady guy, so they got worried and went into the house. He was in such a rush that he left the door open, so they just went in. They saw you unconscious on the floor and immediately called the ambulance. Then they opened your phone and called me. I met them at the hospital and had to wait a while before I was allowed to see you." he answered.

"Oh, it makes sense that he ran away. When did they find him?" I asked. I was in the hospital for so long that I didn't know how any of this happened. "He hid in a friend's basement for 3 days saying that his parents kicked him out and he needed a place to stay. Then the friend saw about it on the news and anonymously turned him in."

"Dad?" I asked after a minute of silence. "Yes honey" he answered. "What if he doesn't go to jail?" "That's not going to happen, I'll make sure of it." He replied. "But he's got a really good lawyer and-" "We have a really good lawyer too and a lot of evidence against him. He's going to jail Anna, and he's never getting out." he assured me.

"Okay" I replied feeling more at ease now. "I have to get to work. Are you going to Maya's today?" he asked, getting up from his chair. "She's coming here after school." I replied. "Okay Anna, I'll see you tonight. I love you." he said. "I love you too dad." I smiled.
