Nothing stirred. Everything was frozen, as if time had disappeared. I stared at the eyes that showed nothing, nothing but emptiness. Staring back at the eyes that bore through me. The crowd of 24 flinched as someone coughed in the background. I twitched my left eye. This was so nerve-wracking. What had I been thinking? I tried to search for the answer. No. I need to concentrate. Silence once again took over the classroom. My arms felt as if they hadn’t moved for ages, and when I say ages, I mean centuries. I could feel my pulse move slower and slower as seconds passed. My breath was shallow and silent. I could almost see my opponent’s sweat, drooling out of their pores. How could I notice that?

That’s so... Gross.

I shivered. She looked as if she was in pain. Or maybe that’s just me. My eyes had burned a few minutes ago but I have passed that level and they have relaxed. Unfortunately, not for my competitor. They half winked. I smirked, then regretted it as I realised that the burning sensation had come back. Nope. False alarm. I shifted my teeth, grinding the left over piece of apple that had stuck between my teeth during lunchtime.

My teacher came in, scaring those who were standing closest to the door. I could hear her ask what was going on. Soon enough, she was intrigued by what we were doing. We carried on, faces glittering with perspiration. I wonder when it will end. No. Oh my gosh. The classroom filled with excitement!!!! My ears were bursting!! My eyes cried, with extreme joy and basically because they hurt. I had won! I stood up to leave, shook my opponent’s hand, which had gone stiff through the whole procedure, then walked through the crowd shaking hands. Everyone had seen it, my competitor blinked!

And that was the end of the No-Blinking competition.

I found this in my story book.

I know my friends and sister have read it but yeah ^_^
