Wildest Dreams (Taylor's Version), [0:23] - Nothing lasts forever.
-
[Continued from the previous chapter.]
David and Jennifer had never wanted to be anywhere else than where they were at that moment. David's left arm was being used as a pillow for Jen's head and he was scared to move as it may result to her thinking he was uncomfortable, which was far from what he was feeling. He was trying to decide if it would be inappropriate to wrap his free, right hand around her waist.
He had no idea what he was doing. He's as close to the lady currently laying beside him as he was to Avery during the whole weekend. He hopes that over time, this crush runs its course because he knew he could never bring himself to hurt a girl like Avery. But even if it does, run its course- he would have to live with only the thought of how it would be like to love someone like Jennifer.
On the other hand, Jen felt that what they were doing in pure innocence could turn into something tumultuous. She was aware that she could act the way she does with David with other people in the cast, like Matt for example, but she knew it would feel different. Her heart wouldn't race, and she would just tell herself it's all good fun.
With David, she couldn't help but search for a deeper meaning to every touch and look he gave her way. She felt more helpless knowing she had to and genuinely wanted to respect David's position as well. He had a girlfriend and Jennifer was thinking about him in a way that, not only as if he was single, but in a way that it was as if he saw her in the way she saw him. As a crush.
"How nice and cozy," Matt said as the four got closer to the two people spooning on the couch that smiled at what LeBlanc had just said.
David took this as a sign that what they wanted to last, had to end. In result, he sat up and scooted over to the side of the couch that was at the opposite end of where Jen's head was. As Jen felt him move away from her, she missed the warmth that came from David's contact but soon feel her stomach drop as the next words came out of his mouth.
"Not really. It's uncomfortable actually, not fit for two people at all," David shrugged, in subtle panic that people on the set suspected something was happening between them, seeing them so close to each other.
Jennifer frowned at this, noticeably by Lisa and Courteney. David had mentally slapped himself for saying such a thing but felt even worse when he tried to make eye contact with Jen. Meanwhile trying to shake it off and pretend she didn't hear it; Jennifer never looked his way as she sat up and scooted at the opposite end of the couch where David sat. The air was thin within the six of them and Jennifer wanted nothing as badly as something or someone to get her out of the room. Lucky for her, someone she didn't expect to, stepped up.
"Hey, Jen. Do you want to see the coffeehouse? It's the only part I haven't been to yet," LeBlanc asked as he got closer to Jen. She nodded and trailed behind him as they walked to small part of the set.
When the two of them disappeared from Lisa's sight, she planned to speak up and ask what David was thinking, but the girl beside her beat her to it.
"David? What was that?" Courteney said in a huffed voice knowing that what he said had hurt Jen's feelings. Lisa soothed her arm, wanting her to calm down as she didn't want Courteney to spill any information as to why she's getting angrier than she needs to.
Both girls felt sympathetic for Jen when she told them what she had felt for David. Jennifer dismissed it as a crush, but Jennifer, herself, couldn't hear what she said about him that night. Jen described David as someone who was dating him would. Courteney didn't have the heart to ask if what Jennifer felt for David was deeper than the crush that she said it was. It was already hard for Jennifer to say who it was, let alone make her realize that it was deeper feelings. From the corner of Lisa's eyes, she could see Matthew staring at him waiting for a response from David along with her and Courteney.
