"One word: Shakes!" Rodney said as soon as I walked into the studio.
"Word?" I said as I took a seat. "Bruh...with her and Onyx, the battle scene is murdered on the females side. Give Keyz some time and she'll be up there with them. When they finish that jawn, you gone bet bank that it's gone blow." Rodney said to me. I needed to hear that because then I can allocate funds accordingly. I was just about at my capacity with artists because I didn't want to stretch myself too thin because I try to be close with every single artist. I looked over the schedule and saw it was basically everybody new in today, with the exception of Paradox. I got him and Cochise working on something right now together to see how that goes. I needed to put the vets against the rookies to make sure everybody was still hungry. I didn't want no beef amongst the artists, but friendly competition was always good to keep the creative juices flowing. I was lightweight on my Diddy, Making The Band, type shit. Right on time, Paradox and Cochise walked in.
"Wassup Boss Man?" Chise said.
"What's good bruh?" I said. "Sup Dox?" I said addressing them both.
"Shit, glad you're here so you can hear the heat." Paradox said as he passed the drive to Rodney for playback. The ballad beat played and I could tell it was heating up. "Rose from the dirt, what they tried to bury me in
But instead I just bloomed, so that got them to questionin
They expected me to run, packing up the duffel But instead I'm ready for war, let me grab my shovel..." Paradox started it off with his little flow, but that hook though...Cochise bodied that hook.
"Expectations...lead to situations
And I'm all out of fucks to give
Trying to stab me up with the shiv
The shit couldn't be no realer Expectations are the real ego killer". Man...they did that. I couldn't deny the pure talent here. I gave them 2 hours to write and record and they came back with a good hook, 2 verses, and the appeal needed to grab attention.
"What you think Rod?" I asked him.
"You already know Money." he said. I stood up and walked over to Cochise and shook his hand. "Welcome to the team." I told him and he smiled at that shit. "Man Dox...you killed that G. Yall should go ahead and add a bridge and some adlibs to that so we can put it on the mixtape." I told them two. "You for real?" Cochise asked me.
"Hell yeah, keep that momentum going." I said reassuring him. "Plus Paradox, my guy, listen you been killing these lyrics lately G. You might get some ghost writing requests soon. Keep that shit up!" I told him.
"Thanks bruh, that means a lot." he said in response to me. I nodded at him to let him know it was understood. "You hear the shorties yet?" he asked me.
"Naw, you did?" I asked him.
"Mannnn listen, they're nice. That might be a good lil rap duo with them two on God." Paradox told me.
"Yeah they feed off of each other's energy so well." Cochise said.
"There's a thought. Could get a group crackin for sure." Rodney said.
"From a marketing standpoint, that might be an ingenious idea." Cochise said. And he had a point.
"Yeah the 'starting off young' thing is taking off. They're young teens, not being overly sexual and can come with legit bars. Who's doing that out here?" Rodney said to add to it. "Just listen to em C." Paradox said as Rodney started up their track.
"But she hollering about some braids and shade Girl my focus is getting this money and my grades
You're older than me, but I'm big dog round here Don't argue the facts sis, you're definitely not one to fear
Your potential can be easily reduced to inexplicable Instead of striving for greatness, you fall under typical. It figures though..." Keyz was for sure solid for her verse, but I was curious about Shakes though.
"You couldn't even measure up with yard stick You stay coming up short, you lost when you grabbed your clique
I'm a fresh 15 and still able to stand 10 toes on my own
You don't have half the heart, and you're 2 months from grown
You have no knowledge while yall sitting back politicin
Words not matching your actions like most politicians
You're focused on finessin off a nigga who into tricking
Underneath all that makeup and weave you're just out here catfishing..." I give them credit, they were able to pull this off with no cuss words and nothing derogatory. Clean music for their age. I'm fucking with it.
"Yeah it's giving very much duo vibes. I want them to keep this momentum going. I know they're still young, but I know that vocab is gonna expand. I definitely like it though. Where they at?" I asked them. "In 3." Paradox said and I gave him the look to go grab them for me. He came back 2 minutes later with both of them.
"Keyz & Shakes, how yall feeling?" I asked and they both looked nervous as hell in front of me. "Relax yall, I might be the boss, but I'm no boogeyman." They both laughed. "That's better. So, I listened to what yall worked on."
"I can do better for real. It was just I'm not used to flowing to a beat. I'm a straight battle rapper." Shakes said quickly. I respected that. "But you're good regardless shorty. I still liked your flow and demeanor. And Keyz I like the wording, you definitely got the game from your bro, but you have an unique sound. I want to keep yall around. Let's grow!" I said and they both got super excited. "We put in work, but yall schoolwork comes first. Remember that and everything will fall into place behind it. That education definitely makes a difference when you're writing. We gone keep this going and yall gone see the money for sure. All of yall." I said as I spoke to everyone in the room. I felt good vibes and dope energy. Influx, Paradox, Aries, Riek, Depth, Araya, Diamond, Onyx, Cochise, Cinco, Keyz, and Shakes. My Dirty Dozen.
