Chapter Five:

Blaze was starting to come to some. She had been darted by one of the dracs and taken back to the headquarters at Battery City. She rubbed her eyes, coming to even more. She looked around herself, taking in her surroundings.

She was in a pure white room, tile flooring, and one bright light that lit up the small space. There was no furniture or anything.

“No wonder my back hurts,” She mumbled to herself. She had thought that was dumped on the floor, and she was correct. The dracs cared nothing about her, and just dumped her in there like Korse had ordered them to.

“Where am I…” Blaze wondered to herself. Since no one was around, she felt like it was okay to talk to herself aloud.

“Ah, I see she has woken up finally.” Korse’s voice made Blaze turn, a hard glare planted as her expression.

“Who are you?” She spat, annoyed with this bald headed freak already.

“That is none of your business. I’m more interested to know who you are.” He spoke the words with slight venom.

“Heather. I am Heather.” She lied smoothly. Korse nodded, buying the whole thing.

“What is your code name, Heather?” He asked, walking closer to her.

“Flaming Sparks.” She mumbled, her eyes looking back and forth from his face to the ray gun at his waist.

“Interesting name.” He inquired. She arched her eye brow, amused by the fact he took such interest in code names.

Korse was much taller than Blaze was. She came about to his chest and had to stare up at him. Korse kept looking up and down. It confused Blaze.

Blaze felt something sharp dig into her skin on her forearm. Her vision clouded over as a massive headache starting taking place. She felt light-headed, dizzy. The drac caught her as she collapsed from the blue liquid.

This blue liquid was power like. It gave whoever super powers. The only downside to this is, if the one with the powers now, they would have to live on this blue liquid stuff to be able to stay alive. If rejected, the body system will begin to shut down and all together fail.

Blaze would know nothing of this in the months to come.

“Take her back to where you found her. We need to keep an eye on her, though. She needs to be injected regularly.” Korse instructed the drac.

The drac nodded and walked out with Blaze in his arms. The walk back to the almost cave entrance was short.

The drac set Blaze down carefully, picked up a rock and threw it to where it bounced off the cave door entrance and ran for it. He got out of sight just in time.

Blaze was still unconscious when the Killjoys opened the door.

“Blaze?!” Fallen screamed and hopped up onto the desert floor, running over to her sister.

Gerard, Mikey, Frank, Ray, and Star followed her.

“Please tell me she’s alive and not dead.” Mikey pushed his way through the others, concern in his voice.

Fallen pressed her index and middle finger at the base of Blaze’s throat, feeling the faint beat of her heart beat.

“She’s alive.” This made the whole group breathe a sigh of relief.

“Doesn’t seem like she’ll be waking up anytime soon, so let’s take her down to the cave.” Gerard spoke.

Fallen nodded and started to pick her up, but Mikey was already ahead of her. He had Blaze placed carefully in his arms and was walking back to entrance. Fallen followed him as he disappeared into the cave below. Gerard, Ray, Frank, and little Star dropped in behind them.

Gerard shut and locked the door to the cave.

Blaze was peacefully asleep in Mikey’s arms, dreaming happily of him. He was walking ahead of her, looking back over his shoulder every now and then to steal a glance at Blaze. This happy dream soon became a nightmare when a drac showed up out of nowhere, ray gun aimed at Mikey.

Blaze stood now, frozen in place, as the trigger was pulled. She watched him fall, limp on the ground now. A scream escaped her throat when this happened. She didn’t want him to die, yet she didn’t know why.

Her screams never stopped, but instead woke her up from the terrible nightmare. Fallen and Mikey were staring at her as she sat up straight, her breathing labored.

Blaze’s eyes darted from her sister to the rest of the group, and ended with Mikey.

“Oh my gosh, you aren’t dead!” She exclaimed, throwing her arms around his body without even thinking.

“Uh, no. I’m not… At least I hope I’m not and this is all of us in the afterlife.” Mikey’s eyes went wide when she hugged him, but he didn’t mind, actually.

“No, it’s not the afterlife.” Fallen said this with a laugh. She was happy to see her sister awake.

“Oh, well, good.” Mikey frowned when Blaze pulled back. It made Fallen smile.

“Were you dreaming or something?” Gerard asked Blaze. She turned and looked at him.

“Yeah, more like a nightmare. But before that this Korse dude got a hold of me. And another one of those drac things. I lied to him about who I was. I said my name was Heather, and that my code name was Flaming Sparks. He believed me.” Blazed told them what happened. “Then the last thing I remember was something being jammed into my arm.” She mumbled, turning her head to look at the back of her arm. A small bruise had formed where the needle was placed.

Fallen took a hold of her arm and looked at it carefully. She let go of it with a glare and scowl.

“You were injected with something. That’s a needle spot.” She explained to everyone.

“But with what? Sedative?” She prayed it was this.

“Maybe, since you passed out afterwards. Do you feel any different?” She asked.

“No… not really.” She lied again. Truth be told, she felt completely different.

“It probably was just a sedative then. Nothing to worry about.” Gerard smiled as he said this.

“Well, that’s good then. So, what now?” Fallen asked, looking over at Gee.

“We need to get closer to Battery City.” He said, without hesitation.

The Killjoys all nodded their heads and stood, brushing off the sand from their clothes. They made their way over to cave entrance but were stopped dead in their tracks when it started to clang. Someone, the dracs, were trying to break in.
