Chapter 24 - War of Succesion Part 5: Battle of Maryland Plains - Part 1

Throne Room

The prince had just received word that his forces had been wiped out at the Fortress Town of Link. To say the least he was very annoyed and angry.

"How difficult is it to capture a girl and kill a few knights?! It's been over 2 months!" Yells prince Jon at the two men who knelt before him. "Borus I entrusted her capture to you because you promised a swift end to this. Perhaps I was wrong."

The prince calms himself before continuing.

"It appears the man you put in charge of capturing the Princess was killed in Link. I received a report that they were wiped out by unknown forces. I cannot afford to drag this out any longer. The border skirmishes on the Kingdom of Fran is getting more intense. A full scale invasion of the Empire is becoming less of a question day by day. Personally I don't care if Fran falls but letting it fall to the Empire isn't in my best interest."

After a moment of thinking.

"Take 1/3rd of your men Borus, and investigate the Town of Link. Remy you will send 100 knights to go along with him. If you encounter my sister and she resists...kill her, I've run out of patience. Borus you will personally handle this. I want regular updates"

He snaps his fingers and a royal servant comes carrying a crystal ball.

"

Yes your Highness." Borus says taking the crystal ball bowing his head. Then gets up and leaves.

"Remy you will remain here in case something happens." The prince said to Remy.

He bows and leaves.

The prince sits on the throne in silence.

"As capable as the knights that my sister has in her service there's no way that they could beat the number advantage that we have...just what is this unknown force that wiped out my men?"

An uneasy feeling washed over the prince.

He calls a guard.

"Send word to Captain Marc tell him to have a few wyverns on standby."

The guard bows and leaves.

Feeling more at ease with his decision he relaxes after all it takes skill to bring down a wyvern and he knew his sister and her knights were not capable of such a feat.

An evil smile spreads across his face.

"I'm one step closer to claiming the throne" he thought.

A few days Later
Valencia/Fran Border
Border Fortress Mauzac

"Incoming!!!" A Fran soldier shouts as a fireball hurls into the fortress walls.

"They've sent their war turtles out!"

"Look in the sky there! Wyverns!"

"Enemies?!"

The wyverns pass overhead and start hurling their fireballs into the enemy soldiers. A few of them hit the war turtles killing or wounding them. After a few strafing runs the enemy starts to fall back as they aren't equipped to deal with wyvern units at the moment. The soldier's cheer in victory. They've managed to repel the empire but for how long. Similar events play out all along the border as Lupis wyvern reinforcements finally reach the Fran border.

1 week Later
Same Time

After gathering the supplies, horses and carriages necessary to carry Tesla and the princess's forces they head out. After about a week of travel they arrive at a former supporter of the Princess. His name is Cris Handers a Duke with a territory southeast of Link.
