Fetal Alcohol Syndrome is an irreversible, lifelong condition that affects every aspect of a child's life and the lives of his or her family members; however, Fetal Alcohol Syndrome is the only birth defects that can be completely prevented. With early identification and diagnosis, a child with FAS can receive services that can help maximize his or her potential.
I take a deep breath and close the book getting up and leaving the table, I've read enough.
I had spend the last 3 hours on reading online and when that wasn't enough I read from the books they have in the library about FAS. The problem is that my mum is already almost 8 mouths, even if she stops now the chances that the baby has FAS are high. I just wish I knew sooner, I didn't think it was that bad.
So I run. I run back to my house because now that I know, I need to stop it. It might be too late, but at least if she stopped now it would be less worse.
I run out the library and down the stairs, carefully looking not to miss a stair and fall, when I get knocked into somebody, both of us falling down the stairs.
Luckily it was only about 3 stairs till we reached the end, I could hear a few gasps from people around us but no one hurried to help me up or even check if I'm fine.
I get up looking down at the dark haired boy ready to scream at him for not watching out, that I'm in a hurry and if I broke anything he'd have to pay for the bill.
That is, until he rubs his head and looks up at me equally angry- and we both freeze.
I would've recognized those green and brown eyes anywhere. I do wonder though, maybe it's fake, is it even possible to have two different coloured eyes?
"You." I say frowning and help him stand up, softening.
"Yea me." He glares right back at me, okay... so maybe we didn't separate on the best side this morning. Or was it yesterday? I don't remember anymore.
"What are you doing here?" I ask picking up the book I borrowed - The Long Way to Simple, the guy who wrote it he himself has FAS or as he calls it FASD but it's basically the same thing, I think.
"Well before you knocked me over without apologizing I was on my way to return a book, I didn't think you were a reader.." he tries to look at the book in my hand but I move it away, it was none of his businesses. "I'm not."
"Uh okay." He says.
There's a silence for a few seconds before the boy opens his mouth again,"my name is Christoffer. " he offers me his hand and I ignore it.
"Gabe. And Gabe is now leaving." I said and walked passed him running once again to my so-called-home.
