*Destiny's Point of View*

A few days have passed since the meeting occured. Everyone is getting along swimmingly. Tory and I have continued training every day since then in order to be prepared. We are still doing one element per day in order to get the basic skills down. We thankfully had a day off today, so Tory and I could finally relax and take some time for ourselves.

We were sitting in one of the multiple lounge rooms that the house had, just sitting, reading, and enjoying each other's company. I was currently reading one of my favorite books, Les Miserables by Victor Hugo. What can I say, I'm a sucker for the classics. I had no idea what Tory was reading, but whatever it was she was enjoing it.

Suddenly, I got distracted. I began to think about mates. I know that Niall is my mate, Harry is Tory's, and so on and so forth. However, I had no information on what they are, how they work... Anything really. That is when Niall and Harry entered the room, scaring the crap out of both of us.

"If you wanted to know about mates, you could've just asked, luv." Niall spoke, a smirk etched upon his his face.

"Yeah yeah. As per usual, you've been picking my brain. Now sit. We've go questions and you have answers." I replied. Niall sat next to me, and Harry next to Tory.

"For starters, what really is a mate?" Tory asked.'

"Mate is short for soulmate. Its the person you were destined to be with since before you even existed. Only the supernaturals have them, unfortunately for humans." Harry answered. Nice to know that I am not going to be a loner for all of eternity.

"Well, what do mates do? How do they work?" I asked.

"Well, they work like any other soulmate you've read about. They are always together. We feel each other's pain. When you separate mates from each other, they feel nothing but absolute misery. But once they're together, nothing can overcome their combined power." Harry answered again.

"How do you know who your mate is? Is there a way to have more than one?" Tory asked.

"Finding you mate is sort of like imprinting, in a way. It was the one of the few things Twilight got sort of right. You look into your mates eyes, and you feel this pull to them, like you need to spend every waking moment with them. No you cannot have more than one mate. So, if they die and you live, your kind of stuck." Niall replied. I cuddled closer to him; he seemed to get a bit tense once he finished talking.

"Do you know of any other mates? Anyone we'd know of?" I questioned. Both the boys seemed to shift very uncomfortably. It was probably a very touchy subject, and I did not want to press it any more than I had to. I was about to take back my question, when Harry finally spoke up.

"There are not many. Mostly just random people we don't know. Th- thats really a conversation for another time. Just know that it was Taylor's doing." Harry spoke solemnly.

"What do you mean Taylor's doing? What did she do to all the mates?" Tory ansked softly. There was a long pause before Niall spoke up.

"When she rose to power, Taylor segregated all the supernatural beings. The royals and anyone else associated with royalty could not be touched. However, that did not stop her. She ripped many of the royal family members apart, many of the watchers as well. Every inter- species courtship, which was almost every one, was ripped apart. The misery that they felt tore them all apart. Many did not survive the segregation. The ones that were able to keep it a secret thrived, but it wasn't enough to end the depression. The ones who did not know their mates just felt a terrible emptimess in their lives. All of us here were lucky enough to keep our mates safe. Some still don't know their mates, which shows how long this segregation has persisted." He spoke, sorrow clearly evident in his voice.

Both Niall and Harry kept their eyes to the floor. Tory and I had no idea how  that split must have felt. All we could do was hold them iin our arms and hope that the pain would end.

"We are sory that we asked. we did not want to bring up past memories." I whispered.

"It's not your fault. You needed to know at some point." Niall replied softly. we just sat there in silence for a while, none of us really knowing what to say. Maybe the silence was to mourn those who were lost. Maybe, it was because no one knew how to follow something that tragic. I thought back to all the thinga that they had said about mates as well as everything else going on outside the house. That's when I came to a realization. Tory must have been doing the same thing, because within and instant of me thinking it, she spoke up.

"I just remembered. We invited every species in existence that we knew would help us. They are not going to be segregated in the house..." she said.

        "Which means..." Niall trailed off.

"Which means that mates will be reunited and found here. The segregation will end. You said yourself that mates who have been separated and returned to each other have insurmountable power. That power is our advantage." I spoke with excitement.

"We've found our edge." Harry added. We all smiled, and gathered for a group hug.

After that, we stuck together for the rest of the day, enjoying our mates company. We spoke highly of those we have met, and became interested in those we have yet to make contact with. I smiled for the first time today.

We had finally found our way to win the war-- integration and love.
