The witch groaned in frustration, glaring at the innocent tree with her hands held in the air. She felt different.

Heavier.

For hours, she remained by a distant clearing in a poor attempt to conjure her powers, shaking in utter concentration.

She needed to be alone.

Something felt wrong and nothing else mattered to her anymore, except for the coldness she felt in her heart.

Her fire was gone.

Her limbs turned numb from the crisp breeze and yet, she kicked off her shoes, digging her feet into the ground for better stability. Her eyebrows pulled together for the hundredth time that day, creating a prominent crease on her sweat coated forehead and she roared in ferocity at yet another failed attempt, pulling at her coffee brown hair in sheer resentment.

Her eyes scanned the area with grinded teeth, looking for something to reveal her macabre frustration. She trashed everything in her reach, kicking and hurling the fallen branches into the mild waters until she collapsed by the shore in defeat, unveiling her anguish in the reflection of the lake. Angry tears welled up in her eyes and she mindlessly gripped and pulled at the frail blades of the dehydrated grass, oblivious to the pair of aquamarine eyes hidden in the thicket of reeks, watching her since she neared the shore. Fatigue marked her pale face and her eyelashes fluttered occasionally, flickering between the state of unconsciousness.

In no time, the girl fell into a dainty slumber and her rigid features relaxed in exhaustion, displaying the vulnerability camouflaged behind hostile glares. The curls falling around her shoulders framed her face like a priceless jewel, catching attention of the greedy creature lurking in the obscurity of the shallows. Her blue tinted lips parted open as she breathed out puffs of evaporated heat and for a second, she let herself be consumed by a sweet dormancy of nothingness.

It was so peaceful.

So quiet.

Lillith found herself sank deeper into the pitch-black darkness of nihility, submerging between the deserted chambers of her mind in sheer harmony. The previous incidents vanished from her brain like a morning mist, soothing the raging storm in her conflicted mind for a sweet moment of negligence.

Unfortunately, nothing lasts forever.

Her moment of serenity was shattered as the calm surface of the lake broke into spluttering waves, revealing a toad like human who moved with bestial speed. Clawed fingers grasped around her exposed ankle and she was pulled into the ice-cold water, disappearing beyond the surface of the lake.

The witch jolted at the impact with the raw liquid and her body immediately lapsed into a shock, paralyzing her from bottom to the top. Her eyes flew open in dismay and her airways filled with Adam's ale, tearing her lungs apart as the waves muffled her screams of terror. Her pupils flickered between contraction and dilation in inner hysteria, unable to adapt to the unfamiliar environment.

She panicked.

The aghast witch looked down at the creature who was dragging her into the depth of the lake, facing an unfamiliar being she had yet not encountered. The green eyes glowed in the darkness like a firefly and the heir fought with heated determination, thrashing and kicking her frail feet until they collided with a viscous layer of epidermis. Her arms swayed in an attempt to swim to the surface, however there was something else she had neither encountered and her heart clenched at the realization,

Nobody taught her how to swim.

The angered abductor grimaced with sharp teeth at her attempt to escape, letting out an ear-piercing screech. The witch cringed at the frequency of the sound and wailed as he dug his nails into the flesh of her calf in a single slash, sinking further until he drew blood. The girl howled in pain and her vision blurred, leaving her completely stupefied. The pressure that burned her lungs due to lack of oxygen loosened and suddenly, a feeling of tranquillity shut down everything around her.

She no longer felt the need to fight.

She wasn't scared anymore.

Her lifeless body sunk to the bottom of the lake, disappearing from the sight of the outer world and the last few bubbles of oxygen ran past her death kissed lips, returning to the surface without their producer who was dragged deeper beyond her recognition.

This was her last breath.
