"ugh" I groan as I grab my very last box. Today was the day I finally get to attend my dream college Columbia University. I worked so hard for this moment, I've been dreaming of it since after my mom died, which was almost ten years ago when I was nine. It's the college she went to, and the only reason I'm going is because I want to become a writer like her, I want to finish the books she never did. I just need more experience.

"DADDY" I yell trying to find the perfect outfit to go see the new movie frozen. all my friends have seen it and I'm so excited to go.

"what is it pumpkin" my dad answers racing to my room. "when is mommy going to be home I can't find what I'm going to wear!"

"Hey, clam down! I can help you." my dad says calmly. "what are your choices?"

"well I have a pink princess dress and a sparkly blue one" I say rolling my eyes because I know he has to sense of fashion.

"well go with the sparkly blue one because mom loves sparkles" he says making a good point. I love making my mom happy! she's my absolute best friend. I haven't gotten to spend time with her in so long.

"lets go ahead and get in the car so we can be ready when mom gets home" my dad insisted

I get into the backseat because daddy said it's not safe for me to sit in the front yet. After I buckle up he turns on the radio because he knows I love music.

thirty more minutes passed and mommy still hadn't showed up. I began to get annoyed because the movie started soon. but FINALLY daddy got a call.

"yes this is he" my daddy says I was kind of mad because it wasn't mommy. "I-....I-....we are on our way right now." he sounded worried.

"where are we going" I ask him.

"hey baby...we are going to the hospital....mommy's been in a lit accident." he said. that scared me I can't lose my mommy. I can't.

---fast forward to hospital---

"i'm so sorry sir....we did everything we could" just as he said that my daddy dropped to his knees. I know what this meant. my mommy was gone. my best friend was gone. who was going to help me fix my hair in the morning or paint my nails. how am I supposed to to live without my mommy

I sigh thinking back at that memory. nothing was going to ruin this college experience, this is a new start.

"oh shit" I say realizing that I forgot my key card to my room in my car. I knock on my door hoping I new roommate is sitting in there. the door opens swiftly to reveal a tall slim girl with gorgeous long brunette hair and the prettiest emerald green eyes.

"oh hey...you must be my new roommate......Nora right." she says sill standing at the door.

"yep that me" I say between breaths grunting because of the weight of my box. the gym isn't exactly my thing...I've never been one to move my body when I'm not forced.

"Oh yeah! sorry!" she says finally letting me in the room to set my box down.

"its fine" I chuckle "thank god that was my last box, it feels like I've been working forever" I say as we both laugh looking over at the four boxes I brought up.

"I can help you put out everything if you'd like. I already did my side. my parents dropped me off this morning" she says walking up to my boxes. "sure that would be amazing."

after a putting my clothes away and my sheets on my bed we finally got down to the last box. the personal belongings. I didn't exactly want to do that one right now. I didn't want to see the pictures.

"Oh wow your mom is so pretty" Lauren says already digging deep into the box and picking up my favorite picture.

"yeah she was the prettiest woman I knew" I say a small tear falling down my left cheek.

"was?" she asked. "yeah she died in a accident almost ten years ago" I reply. I never really got out much after she passed. I focused more on my grades and getting into this college, so I never had friends...which means I never had to tell anyone about her.

"I'm so sorry that sucks" my new roommate said "my dad passed about five years ago from cancer" she replies. it was kind of nice to have someone who knew what you went through.

after some time had passed I finally sat down on my newly made bed. looking up at the ceiling where I put all my photos. This was it. this was the new start I thought to myself as someone barges into my room.

"hey some lady told me to tell everyone that we have to meet in the auditorium at 6pm" a random kid walked in and said.

after that I dozed off to sleep setting my alarm so I can wake up in time....
