Treading Water

It had not been long since moving into the Sunrise Residence, but already the chaos of Ema's new everyday life was staring to drive her insane. As much as she had grown to love her new siblings, they were a bit... *much*.

The amount of them and their personalities. As well as this, they lacked a certain call to consent that was essential to creating good relationships.

Holed up in her bedroom with Juli snoozing beside her, she laid down on her bed, clutching a plush teddy bear and her phone to her chest. She went through the motions and took deep breaths while clearing her thoughts. Once, then twice, then three times. Through these breaths, Ema caught the fleeting scent of a certain perfume from the bear. Although calmer, the futility of it all came crashing down, causing her to audibly groan and turn on her side. Chomping down on the bears shoulder, she screamed into its soft exterior. 'Poor Freddy'.

Overwhelmed, upset and frustrated, she glanced at her phone screen, already opening to her girlfriends contact. [Name], her long-term partner, had told her that she was always available to talk whenever Ema needed support, or just to hear her voice, but self-deprecation and guilt always careened her to not press the button. However this time she did not have to make that decision.

**bzzzt** **bzzzt** **bzzzt**

Gasping at the sudden sensation, she swiftly pulled the covers over herself to hide from potential familial intruders and answered the call.

"Hey baby~" a hoarse voice murmured from the other end.

"Hey..!" Ema whispers, flustered beyond belief.

"How are you? We haven't called properly in a while, so I wanted to check in before I have to get up and start packing."

She'd been in bed all day? Unsurprising, but it was very late to still be in bed. And packing?

Peturbed, Ema blurts "You're still in bed? Are you okay??"

"I'm on the closing end of a bout of flu, but don't worry about me," she chuckles in contempt. "Not gonna ask why I'm packing?"

"I was, I-!"

"Chillax, Ems, I'm joking. But I missed you, and wanted to see you, so I'm coming to visit... by moving close by..."

The brunette was stunned into silence. Moving nearby? She didn't know how to react. Only in her fleeting daydreams had she even imagined that something like this would happen. All worries from earlier had been erased from her mind by the astounding news. It seemed the silence on her end had started to panic the s/o, as she overly tried to justify herself and stammer.

"I-I know that I should've told you before, but I've wanted to move for ages and this was the perfect opportunity, and this was going to be a surprise but i couldn't keep the secret for much longer so... yeah..." [Name] sighed in dismay.

Ema jumped to affirm her girlfriend's words, "No no dont worry! I was just- surprised, is all! This is incredible news!"

Although not being able to see each other, they mirrored one another with their wild grins. It had been much too long since they had met face-to-face, so the prospect of them being able to do that every day was daunting yet thrilling. The [h/c] haired girl glanced at the time, double-taking in trepidation.

"Shit, if I don't hurry now I'll be late. Do you want me to transfer to discord so we can face call, or should we call it a day?"

"Uhm.." The sweet-natured Ema was reluctant to hang up, however she didn't want to bother the other.

"I'm taking that as a face call. One moment, babe."

Having packed, and spent way too long runway modelling outfits for Ema, [Name] was finally ready to depart. She had one last request before she signed off.

"Hey hon," she hesitantly called.

"Yeah, baby?"

"Could you, maybe, come pick me up from the airport? Or get one of your brothers to? It's no worry if not, just taxi's are hella expensive..." she stuck out her tongue at the thought.

Ema snickered at the visual.

"Of course, my sunflower."
