'𝐒ilently' caressing her baby blue aluminum bat named Big Bertha, Kate moaned and whined, feigning depression. She understood why they had to move; she was there when her mother discovered a naked white lady prancing around their home. She just didn't understand why she had to be taken away from her dream school (ilvermorny) right as the semester started. In retaliation, her mom (Josephine) set her dad's BMW on fire (it was his most prized possession—Kate would've done it herself eventually since her father showed the automobile more love than he did his own children).
Before her mother had kids she moved to America and became an up-and-coming actress on Broadway. That's where she met Abel, Kate's father. Kate wasn't oblivious. She knew her mother relied on her father financially during the time of their marriage; so she understood that she needed time to figure out her next move. As a result, Kate and her twin brother, Erik, were to move in with their grandmother who lived in an entirely different country. England.
Kate had been hysteric after hearing the news. She didn't want to leave her family, or the nanny named Fran who was practically not needed. It was hard for her to leave her mom and siblings, and Fran.
She'd miss girl talk with her sister and the way Fran and her sister would teach her the proper way of shopping (She'd miss the way Fran insisted Kate practice proper posture while shopping, walking behind her whispering, "Chin up, shoulders back, you're royalty, darling—even in aisle five." ) or how her older brother tried to teach her the ways of a 'player'. She'd even miss her incredibly annoying baby brother who would cry all night long.
Josephine pointed out all the benefits of moving to England just so Kate would unstick herself from the pillar that stood in the front yard of their overly large home. One of those benefits is easy transportation to Hogwarts, which just had to be within a 50-mile radius of where her grandmother lived. If you wanted the truth, she didn't care much for Hogwarts. The school started in September—compared to Ilvermorny which began in August.
She hated Little Whinging. Most sunsets were meant to be beautiful but they only looked depressing here. Nearing the end of summer it was somewhat expected for the air to smell like fresh rain, but that did not stop Kate from being overrun by it. The only thing about Hogwarts Kate looked forward to was seeing her cousins daily—Kali and Sage.
Kali's father was a mechanic and her mother owned a shop in the city. Her parents got divorced a year ago and Kate thought that maybe once Kali moved from the palace of a house they'd lived in for 8 years, to an average house, with an average backyard, in an average neighborhood, maybe just maybe she'd get humbled, but she was surely mistaken.
Sage was an only child and lived with her mother in a penthouse in London.
Soon the sun was seen side by side with the moon. The car pulled into a gravel driveway belonging to Number 11 Privet Drive. Wilhelmina started on the belongings that were in the trunk, giving the house key to Erik. "Go unlock the door"
The twins had packed light, not taking their mother seriously when she said that they were to live in Surrey for who knows how long.
Kate dragged her pink suitcase to where Erik struggled to unlock the front door. "Give it here" she tried to take the key from him.
Erik swatted her hand and said, "I got this" in a high-pitched tone. He wiggled and jiggled the key while grunting; adding more pressure than needed.
"Come get one of these Kathani—Erik! You still ain't get that door open yet?" Wilhelmina shrieked passing Kate one of the duffle bags from the trunk.
The sun had completely faded, and Erik managed to break the silver house key off into the door.
"I got this" Kate said mockingly, imitating Erik.
"Shut up" he pursed his lips staring down at half a key he had in his hand.
"Hold this" Wilhelmina quickly passed another duffel bag to Kathani who was startled by such action. She rummaged through her purse until she found what she was looking for.
Kate's straight posture had sank noticeably with the addition of another bag to carry.
The weight became so unbearable that she began to float the bag. Wilhelmina swatted Kate's shoulder before continuing her search through her purse, "Not in front of the muggles" It took all her might for Kate not to roll her eyes.
Wilhelmina sighed, holding what she dug through her purse for— a silver key identical to the one Erik broke into the door.
She held out the palm of her hand and the half that was jammed into the door came out with a pop. S
he entered the replica in the door handle and a click was heard.
The door opened and Kate was pleased to see everything was the same as it had been the last time she had been there—just slightly bigger.
Magic never seemed to cease her.
When Kate was little, her grandmother told her the story of how she'd gotten the house. At the time of her dad, James Lestrange's death, Wilhelmina had just become a young adult. The passing led to the—at the time— young Bennett inheriting multiple properties, including No. 11 Privet Drive.
Wilhelmina had found that the house was too small for her liking, so she did what any witch would do; she enlargened it with magic—twice; when she'd first inherited it and a few weeks ago to prepare for the twins' arrival.
'No. 11 Privet Drive' was originally a four-bed, two-bath home but it now had up to ten rooms and six bathrooms.
A few pictures of the twins' mother, Josephine, and their aunt and uncle, Benedict and Brittany, hung on the wall nearest to the front door.
For Wilhelmina to be a pureblooded witch most of the items in the house were No-maj objects; things like the overly used toaster and the brand new television that Wilhelmina recently bought after hearing the news that her grandchildren would be living with her. Unlike Wilhelmina, Kate's father, Abel, made it known of their heritage throughout their entire house. It was filled with magic from the floor to the ceiling lights.
The twins went and chose the rooms they preferred best. Kate's room was slightly smaller than all the other rooms in the house since it had a bathroom. Among all of the rooms, Erik picked the only one with an air conditioner.
𝐃ays passed and it was now the end of August. The twins had quickly adjusted to the rules and requirements of living with Wilhelmina Bennett.
