"Hey Loony, who is this?" Graig threw his arms around us. Malcolm shrugged him off and wrapped his arm around my waist.
"All you need to know is that I'm her best friend, and I'm gonna take care of her." We keep going.
"You do realize who this is right?"
"Yea, Lanette Marther. What of it? You gotta problem with her?" Malcolm turned around.
"Nah man... God I just wanted to know your name. You're just as crazy as she is!" He jogs away.
"You're making a bad reputation for yourself." I slip away from him. Grasping my arm he whirls me around.
"I don't care about any stupid reputations, I don't care about any of these assholes here. You're the only one I remotely care about." He huged me. "I don't know why or how. But I feel like I'm falling for you." He whispered into my shoulder.
"I've honestly never been in love before, I've had crushes mostly girls, one boy, but no crushes I thought could turn to love.... That is until you." The bell rings and we sneak into the library. There's always at least two empty seats in front of me and to the right if me. Every teacher seats me in the back away from other students, but Malcolm refused to move from the desk directly next to me.
"Who are you anyway?" Mrs. Higgs sighed. "A new student?" He nodded.
"Malcolm Winchester. Just moved here from New Zealand." All the girls swooned and the boys groaned, and then they seemed to remember that he was sitting next to me. It was the girl's turn to groan and the boys sighed in relief.
"Nice to meet you Malcolm. Do you want to maybe come up front?" She looked frightened of me.
"No thank you, I'm perfectly happy where I am. Why should I move anyway? Students get to choose our seats." I smile between him and the teacher.
"Ok, fine. Stay in the back of the class." She began teaching. All the other classes we shared began and ended up the same ways. I felt guilty for being the reason why Malcolm won't have any friends.
"Bye Crazy Mal and Loony Laney." Kids called after us, smiling back we waved sarcastically.
"So where to now, Loony?" Malcolm threw his arm around me.
"My brother's school, Crazy Mal." We take our time cruising down the three blocks to Kyle's school.
"So...." Malcolm began looking down at his shoes, and bunching and unbunching his shirt.
"So....? " I laughed casually taking off my over shirt not really caring that people around here thought Camis were basically a bra. Finally he slowly turned to me.
"I know we just met, I mean like JUST met... But do you want to go on a date?" I start giggling while Malcolm looks betrayed. "What? Seriously Laney, what's so funny?" I was laughing so hard now that I couldn't even speak. "Fuck you Laney, you could have just said no instead of laughing at me."
"No, no it's really not that Mal. It's the fact that you seemed so shy and that you really even had to ask." I stop and hug him. "Of course I wanna go out with you. Why wouldn't I?" I kiss his cheek.
"Ew." Kyle groaned from the window. "PDA. Gross, get a room and keep that nasty nasty in there." He gets in and we drive him home. "Are you staying home tonight?" Kyle hugged me as he unbuckled.
"No buddy, I'm going back with Mal. Please don't tell mom he's, well a he." I kiss his head, and he looks at me in shock.
"Why would I tell on you? You're the only one who loves me. Without you I have no one, and to be honest I don't want anyone else." it hit me then that my sweet little brother was feeling the same things I was. Instantly I pulled him in and told Malcolm to drive.
"What's going on Laney? Am I kidnapping a nine year old child?" Malcolm looked genuinely terrified.
"It's not kidnapping if he's getting abused at home, and to be honest if mom knows that we're with a friend she doesn't care how long we're gone." Kyle nodded as I call her telling her Kyle wanted to stay the night with me and my friend. Her reply. 'K.. Be safe and keep an eye on Kyle.' Great parenting mom.
