Hitting Reset Season 6: The Pandemic Begins

First Roll Out

Gabby's POV: Shortly after rolling out of the firehouse in Ambo 61 for the first time in a while, I just took a breath and tried to relax. This was scary and I'm not ready to get sick. Going to grab my mask, I got it ready and just took a breath while looking at Violet. "Okay, concentrate on driving but spill! How long have you been dating the chief?" Violet laughed when I said that and went to go drive off the firehouse property. "Okay, we literally just became official though...but maybe 3 months unofficially. We kissed on New Year's Eve." I laughed and shook my head.

"Wow, that's crazy." Just driving down the road, Violet agreed with me. "Let's just say this though...they have been great months. He's amazing if you know what I mean." I went to slap her arm and just smiled at her. "God, you are going to be trouble like my old partner." Violet nodded and agreed with me when I said that. "Sorry all that shit went down between you and Sylvie. Based on what I experienced with her...I would've never guessed that she did that to you." I nodded and agreed with her when she told me that. "Can we not talk about that?"

Violet agreed with me when I told her that. "Right, sorry." I agreed with her and just took a breath when she told me that. "Thanks. It's a little hard when I think about her. She's the reason why I went into premature labor with my boys." Violet was shocked when I told her that. "Oh wow, that's crazy." I nodded and agreed with Violet when she told me that. "Yeah, so she's not somebody I want to talk about. Now listen, I am going to need some help today. I need a bit of a refresher I think. Maybe the forms and stuff." Violet agreed with me and nodded as she turned.

She then took a hard left and then smiled. "Sorry, almost missed the turn." I smiled at her. "Your boyfriend is not going to be happy when he learns why you did that." Violet laughed and agreed. "I'm sure he'll be fine. He doesn't know if the traffic is bad or not." I agreed with her when she said that. "True." She just nodded and smiled when I told her that. "So, secret between us?" I nodded and agreed with Violet when she told me that. "Of course. But now, back to the patient since we need to be ready for it." We both agreed when I told her that, smiling.

Violet agreed with me when I told her that. "Yeah. We need to mask up first and then we need to go check how they are doing." I nodded and agreed with her. "I think we should act on the presumption that this is a COVID case since it's one of the symptoms." Violet agreed with me when I said that. "Wait, what does that mean for going to the hospital. I mean, we can't just bring him to the normal ED since it spreads..." I nodded and agreed with her when she told me that. "Ambo 61 to Gaffney ER." That's when I heard Maggie speak to me. "That you Gabby?"

I agreed and smiled. "Yeah, it's me. Listen...first call of the day is COVID. I did my reading and we need to separate people. What are we doing for COVID patients and hospital." That's when she replied. "Oh, COVID patients are going to the field hospital at McCormick Place." I agreed. "And they have everything for new gurneys and stuff there?" Maggie agreed. "Yes. Thanks for asking." I agreed and then went to go speak to Chief Hawkins. "Hawkins..." He then replied. "I'm going to send that message out. Clear the airways please." I agreed and just let him talk.

"Attention Paramedics. Effective immediately, all symptomatic COVID cases are to go to the McCormick Place field hospital. Regular calls shall still go to your  local hospitals. Dispatch, please relay for the future." Dispatch then agreed. "Understood Chief Hawkins and Welcome Back Dawson...have a good day both of you." I then turned to look at Violet who was smiling at me. "You seem toe be very liked here at the CFD and at the hospitals." I nodded and agreed with her when she told me that. "Yeah, let's just say that I have fans all over the CFD." Violet laughed.

Continuing to drive to the address, Violet just smiled as we both went to go make our first save.

Once we made our way to the address, I went to get out and then just put my mask on. "Violet, get the Ambo bag." Violet agreed with me when I said that, us both running to the back to open the door. That's when Chief Hawkins got the gurney out for us and I just went to grab it. "Thanks. You stay there, less exposure the better." He agreed with me when I said that. "Good idea Dawson." I smiled. "Get the oxygen mask and HR monitors ready. The minute he's in here..." He agreed with me and nodded. "Good idea. I will do just that." I nodded and agreed.

Going to rush away with Violet, I smiled when she turned to look at me. "Dang, you know how to order people around." I nodded and agreed with her when she told me that. "Trust me...I can control my husband very well." Violet laughed and agreed with me when I told her that. "I don't see Matt as a pushover but..." I just laughed. "Trust me, a little intimacy works." Going to get up to the door, I went to knock. "CFD Open up!" Violet then took a breath and I could tell that she was nervous. "Hey, it's okay Violet. Things are going to be fine." She nodded and agreed with me.

That's when I heard the door open. "Please, come save my husband." I nodded and agreed with her when she said that. "Ma'am, unfortunately you can't ride with us. He's going to Gaffney-McCormick Place. We'll get them to call you." Pushing the gurney over to the man, we saw that he was in the chair and I Just sighed before going to grab my radio. "Hawkins, I need you in there. I can't lift him out of the chair." That's when I heard him rush in. "I just remembered that the minute that we got out." I laughed and agreed with him. "I can get the stuff ready I guess."

He shook his head. "I already did it. Just get all medical information from the wife since she can't come." I agreed. "Ma'am, do you have anything that you can give me? A list of meds and things? She agreed with me and nodded as she went to go grab a piece of paper that she had lying around. "He's going to be okay right?" I then took a breath. "We'll do everything we can." She nodded and agreed with me when I told her that. Going to look at the situation, I went to grab the bag to help. "Here, breathing tube." Violet agreed with me. "Thanks."

I nodded and just agreed with her when she said that. That's when Hawkins when to grab the guy. "Violet, on my count." She agreed. "1, 2, LIFT!" She then went to lift and they both went to go put him on the gurney. Once that was done, I went to go help get him set up before grabbing the tube. "Here, let me help with that." Violet agreed. "Hawkins, go back to the ambulance and get the air ready now." He agreed and nodded. Meanwhile, me and Violet got the patient ready for transport. "Ma'am, we got him. He'll be at McCormick Place." She agreed. "Thank you."

Going to walk out with the patient, I took a breath since I knew that this was just the first call of many. "Violet, when we're at the ambulance...I'll pass him off to you and Hawkins. Since you can lift and I can't...I'll just get in." She agreed with me and nodded when I told her that. Rolling over to the ambulance with the patient, I saw that Hawkins was already there. "Air's ready and I'm here to lift." I nodded and agreed with him when he told me that. "You're in with me as soon as he's in. You lift the head. Violet, go drive as soon as the doors are closed." She agreed and nodded.

Going to hand off to Chief Hawkins, I went to get in the back and then took a breath while he and Violet got the patient in. Getting the tube ready, I just took a breath and then went to go look at the patient as they slipped him in. "Go Violet." Violet agreed with me when I told her that, going to run away so that she can get in the front. Meanwhile, it was just me and Hawkins left in the back to take care of the patient.
