My name is Sho Matsuko. I'm a first-year at Omiya Higashi High School. My best friend is called Seiichi Kukiko. I live in Japan, Saitama. And I'm estimated to die in approximately:
81 years, 2 months, 13 days, 6 hours, 30 minutes and 5 seconds,
4 seconds,
3 seconds,
2 seconds,
1 second,
"I'm one minute closer to death."
"Sho-kun! Sho-kun! Hello! Earth to Sho-kun!" Seiichi waved his hand frantically in front of my eyes, pulling me out of my thoughts. My vision once again focused on the world around me, on Seiichi's face, concern glimmering in his eyes.
I caught a glimpse of his clock, the numbers ticking down slowly.
"79 years, 7 months, 4 days, 2 minutes and 1 second... Seii-kun, it's coming," I whispered.
"Sho-kun!" Seiichi shouted, "Snap out of it, would you! It's fine, I've still got plenty of years ahead of me" he smiled. Somehow, that calmed me. I relaxed my shoulders and let out a sigh. "So, you going on that trip to Okinawa?" I asked him. The concern still lingered in his eyes, but it passed in an instant, being replaced with excitement. "For sure! I can't wait, I've never been on a plane before, I bet it will be amazing!" Seiichi replied eagerly.
"Why does it have to be a plane!? Why can't we go on a boat instead?" I whined. I have a small fear of flying on a plane and try to avoid it if possible, even though, yeah, it's meant to be the safest form of travel.
Seiichi and I continued to talk throughout lunch, however, somewhere along the way, I found my attention slowly drifting back to watching my clock tick down. There is some part of me that needs to watch it, to make sure it doesn't change.
"AHHHHHHHHHH!!"
Seiichi's head snapped around to where the scream had come from. A small, brown-haired girl stood looking horrified, staring straight at her clock.
10 seconds
"I don't know what it is! Help!" She wailed, tears streaming down her face. The clock ticked down slowly.
5 seconds
She grabbed her bag and started fumbling around, seemingly looking for something, but she couldn't find it.
3 seconds
2 seconds
1 second
The girl collapsed to the floor, smashing her head on the table. Still. Not moving. Dead.
