Fontaine. The land of hydro in which the hydro archon grips her gavel and hails over the region. The region was bustling and was well known for its gadgets and tinkerers. During the day, the city folk worked hard and immersed themselves in technologies, inventing the next best thing. But at night, young people from all over came for the glitz and glamor – the parties. The thrill of it all -- a last hoorah, an encore were what such events were. A mirage of an everlasting fantasy. Giving it your all just to have one shimmering night.
"You're coming tonight, aren't you~" Y/N's friend, Vanessa had asked. Although it had adherently been a question, it almost sounded as if it were a statement.
"Yes, Vanessa," Y/N replied uninterested as she laid upside down on her friend's bed, reading a book about the plants of Teyvat. She side-eyed her as she felt Vanessa's excited stare on her. Closing the book, she sat up and sighed. "I do suppose it is time we get ready for this party you are so excited about." Y/N huffed out.
Y/N loved the thrill of a good party like any other citizen of Fontaine would, but knowing her attendance this time would be more so for business made it a little less intriguing. Unbeknownst to her dear friend, she was set to have a chat with the Fatui's very own 8th Harbinger, Lady Signora, at tonight's party.
Making a noise of excitement, Vanessa stood up and ushered Y/N to sit near her vanity. It was beautiful. The dresser and mirror's border were made out of smooth wood that had been sanded white and was accented with gold trimming. Placing her hands on Y/N's shoulders, she looked into the mirror at both of their reflections. Giving Y/N a quick smile, Vanessa set to work and began her makeup and Y/N followed in her steed.
The room was filled with light laughter and chit-chat as the girls powdered their faces and styled their hair. Y/N wore light brown and golden eyeshadow that had been paired with the traditional black eyeliner and reddish lips. Setting down her palette, she began to style her hair into a half up half down hairstyle.
"Y/N, here is your dress!" Vanessa called from her closet. Revealing herself once again, she held up two dresses. On the left was a beautiful yellow dress with white flower trimming, while Y/N's, on the right, was one of a deep midnight blue with draping sleeves. Y/N took the dress and examined it closer. It was truly beautiful. The dress was shoulderless with draping sleeves that sat at her upper arms, revealing her toned chest and collarbones. The dress came a bit above her knees in the front and draped to her upper calves in the back. Tying the look together, she slipped on black heels and wore a silver necklace.
Turning to look at their appearances, the girls spun and twirled in front of the floor-length mirror that sat in a corner of the room. Although this had been almost routine for them, the thrill of a new dress, a different party, a special night, never got old to them.
Walking to the door to leave for the party, Y/N stopped in her tracks and she heard the harsh taps on the wooden floor behind her that came from her friend's heels. "Don't forget your mask! Did you forget tonight's party is a masquerade?" Vanessa laughed out lightly while handing the mask over to her friend.
Giving her a sheepish grin in response, Y/N looked down at the mask she held. Like her dress, the base was midnight blue. In addition, the mask had black, purple, and silver detailing and trimming.
Slipping on their masks, they both set out for the party. Since the party wasn't too far away, they opted to walk and followed the many others that had also been heading to the masquerade.
Vanessa was giddy and beyond thrilled for tonight's adventure, but it wasn't exactly the same case for Y/N. She grew more anxious as they came closer and closer to the venue. Her meeting with Lady Signora was not shy of a big deal, and it pertained to her future involvement with the Fatui.
Y/N was a fighter to put it simply, and she was an assassin to be precise. This was unknown to the world and people around her as she was just seen as an average girl in a busy city, chasing the next best thing, the excitement. But to be clear this was nowhere near the case. She was a killer. Hiding her identity had been no easy task but it was one she swore to carry out to protect herself and the people she cared about. Y/N could not quite recall just how many times she had been hired and called upon to do others' dirty work, but in her eyes, it was simply that, work. Oh how thrilling it had all been for her, it was even better than Fontaine's parties. One could say she was twisted, a monster even, but this never stopped her. The crimson thrill of her slashing blade never failed to make adrenaline rush through her veins. How thrilling, how dangerous the lust of battle was. But was it really a battle when it was a one-sided fight? If she always had the upper hand? Always one step ahead.
Y/N snapped out of thought as she heard Vanessa call her name. "We're here! Ready to go in?" she asked. Looking away slightly, Y/N, who had been a bit apprehensive, only nodded her head as they both headed in.
And so another party began, except this time, it would be one to remember.
