"She knows, Jeanine!" Eric shouted his emotions.

Jeanine said, "I know, Eric Neman. My plans are set, and now the Test Subject-"

"Sierra! Her name is Sierra and she's WAY more than a freaking test subject!" Eric lost his temper and boiled over.

"Stay back, Eric. I have more Nero to put in her," Jeanine contemplated.

"Why do you have to try and destroy her?" Eric asked.

"Ah, okay. I've known from the minute that Sierra was born that she was the First. Her records proved that. And her parents knew."

"What are you getting at?" Eric asked.

"I. Killed. Her. Parents. So I could test on her on my own terms," Jeanine admitted.

"She never deserved this! She just wants to, to-"

Jeanine interrupted, "You love her, don't you?"

Eric gulped, "Y-yes."

"I can't have you around her, then," Jeanine said.

"AND WHY NOT?" Eric screamed.

"My dear boy. I can't have you around her because if you have feelings for her, then you'll take her side. And plus, I'll kill your brother. Now, will you stay away from her?"

Eric couldn't lose his brother. Or Sierra. "Jeanine, I'll stay away from her."

Jeanine laughed. "No you won't." She pulled out the gun, aimed, and fired.

My head was pounding bullets. I opened my eyes. The light above me was blinding. I cringed away and tried to fathom my surroundings. It was all different. The room was white and my hands and feet were in shackles. Wait, this has happened before. "Fight it, Sierra!" The voice screamed in my mind. What?! I'm going crazy, first I think that I've been in this situation before, and then voices come to the back of my mind!

"Help!" It was my first reaction.

"Silence," I heard a male voice say. Wait, was it-

"Bravo! I thought Jeanine was underestimating you, but you really are the first," the same voice said.

I turned to him. He had a fat nose, huge lips, a high forehead, yellow teeth, and round glasses. Ugly.

"What am I doing here? Why am I here? Who are you?" Questions upon questions built in my mind, and I flinched when an electric shock passed through my body.

"Wow, a curious one. I'm Dr. Xavier Donald, Head of Erudite in-training. But call me Xavier. And don't bother introducing yourself to me. I know who you are," Xavier told me, plastering a disgusted look on his face when he looked at me.

"What am I doing here, Xavier?" I emphasized his name. He let out a loud cackle.

He snorted, "You are here because of what you are." He wasn't making any sense.

"What? I'm just a Dauntless leader," I tried to explain to him.

"No, no you're not. You're something far more important than a Dauntless leader. No, you're way more," Xavier inquired. I'm so confused.

"If I'm way more than Dauntless, then what am I?" I was afraid of his answer.

"That, I'm afraid, I cannot answer. Ms. Matthews gave me clear instruction on how much I can tell you." I sighed, frustrated. I didn't even know that I was more than Dauntless. "I can tell you that you fought out the serum incredibly."

"What serum?" My life sucked on so many levels right now.

"The Nero serum, of course. We put you under a simulation of black-outs, to see if our theories were accurate. When you opened your eyes ten minutes ago, the theories proved right," Xavier explained. It made sense, but what didn't make sense was why I was here. And what I was.

"When will you let me go?" My heart raced.

"When the test completes itself," Xavier pointed out.

"What tes-" I heard a loud bang, and my blood curled. I looked to Xavier, who was leaving. I tried to yell at him, but it only brought me pain. Electric was pulsing through me, and I started to cry. I felt something slimy and cold against my leg, and staying calm was impossible.

The thing made its way up to my chest, and the figure of a snake appeared. I thrashed against the hard surface I was on, and the snake struck my chin. A burning sensation filled my chin, and all I could do was thrash and cry. The snake struck again, this time on the end of my nose. Blood dripped down my neck, and fire filled my face. I looked to my right, and another time the snake struck. This time on my neck. My vision became blurry when the snake began to wrap itself around my neck. It squeezed, contracting around my jugular and my jaw bone. My eyes felt like they were popping out of my head, and the pain kept flowing through me. Electric shocks and snake bites. These people were trying to kill me.

Behind me I could hear gun shots being fired, and I finally gave in to the light. . .

My eyelids fluttered open, finding a night sky. My head hurt and my face stung. What happened? The last thing I remembered was seeing Eric pull away from me. Oh! He kissed me, and I kissed him back. That moment that we shared was sketched in my brain, and it made me smile. I got up quickly, not bothering with breakfast. I had to find Eric.

And I did, standing next to Max. All of Dauntless stood in a crowd, near the ledge.

"Sierra," Max called, "get over here." I walked quickly, trying not to look at Eric.

"Yes, Max?"

"We have a problem," Max told me.

I asked, "What is it?"

Max and Eric exchanged a look and Max sighed, "We have a few Initiates that are-"

"Divergent," Eric finished.
