These characters are not my own, other than Sam, and I do not claim ownership of Mean Girls, or any characters or story line, unless stated otherwise, within this story."Janis....god. It's beautiful. YOU'RE beautiful." Sam stammered awkwardly, looking at the painting in front of her.
"You can have it, it won a prize,"Janis snapped but in reality, she was speechless.
"Jan..." Sam started but was cut off.
"You infuriate me. You're a mean girl, Sam, you're a-"
"Janis god just shut up for a second," Damian shouted angrily out of the car window as he put it in park and got out. This took the two girls by surprise, as he made it blatantly clear he had a curfew. "You're both fucking phonies. It's exhausting! Just cut the goddamn crap and get over yourselves. Sam, you're not just faking anymore, you're as cold, shiny, hard plastic as they come. You need to do some serious self reflecting before anything can get better, girl."
She flinched. Damian's words cut Sam like a knife. He didn't say anything she didn't already know, but it hurt her to hear it out loud from someone else. And it hurt her even more to know her actions cause him, and especially Janis, pain.
"And Janis," he continued, taking Janis by surprise, "your shit don't smell like roses either. Forgive me for bringing it up, but It's been years since Regina outed you! I know as well as anyone what that feels like. But at some point, you need to get over it and let yourself be happy. You deserve it!"
Janis glanced at Sam, who looked as surprised as she felt at Damian's outburst.
"Janis, I," Sam started with tears in her eyes, "I'm so sorry."
Janis took a couple steps toward her.
"It's you," Sam shrugged, dropping the arm holding the painting to her side, "it's always been-"
Janis closed the distance between them as their lips met tenderly. She leaned down just slightly to allow her arms to wrap around the small girl in front of her. Sam's arms snaked slowly around the taller girl's neck, and Janis lifted her up lightly. Sam started to giggle against Janis's lips.
"What is it?" Janis asked softly.
"Damian's gonna miss his curfew," Sam responded jokingly.
"Oh. My god. You did not just," Damian shouted, wiping tears out of his eyes.
"Forget about the curfew," Janis grumbled crashing her lips to Sam's once more.
