It was cold, damp, and dark. He was in a basement, that much he knew. His face was covered in tears and his shaking was uncontrollable. The cold concrete floor doing nothing to warm his naked, battered body. He was afraid, afraid of being alone, but dreading when the man would come back.

He jolted and shook harder when he heard the door open. For a brief second light blinded him. Then he heard footsteps descending down the steps. He didn't need to look up to know his tormentor was standing infront of his huddled form in the corner of the room.

The deep, cruel voice spoke.

"Kristoff. "

He knew not to answer. If he did punishment would follow.

He felt a hand on his head playing with the short locks of black hair.

"It's your birthday. Your 18, it's already been two years."

'18? It's only been 2 years?'

"They've finally given up the search. No ones looking for you anymore."

If Kristoff looked up he would've saw the malicious smirk that had marked the mans face.

He saw that smirk when his chin was forced up by cold, calloused hands.

2 years ago defiance would have shown in Kristoff's eyes, but now only fear showed. He had been broken long ago. He knew not to defy this man.

"I'm feeling rather generous today and you've been a very good boy, so since they not only gave up on you and It's your birthday I'm going to give you a break for today."

Kristoff barely heard anything after the words 'gave up' those words, they hurt. They hurt almost as much as the acts this man had committed against him.

He didn't even notice the monsterous man leave or the plate full of food next to him. He was to cosumed with his sad, hopeless thoughts.

'So that's it. My parents, friends, everyone. They've given up on me, everyone has officially lost hope. I really will be here until the day I die.'
