Chapter Inspiration: Don't Stop by Innerpartysystem
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
"The ANBU Exam was chosen at random from a list of possible tests used throughout the past fifty years," Ibiki said.
His eyes scanned the room of potential candidates. There weren't many, but that didn't mean the talent wasn't there. This crop was the most interesting they had seen in years. And one person in particular stood out in the back of the room, leaning against the far wall.
"You will be placed into an arena and must pass through three sectors in order to recover a document. This represents vital information you may need to gather on a potential mission for the Village. Information that could mean life or death. Or prevent a war. This is a solo mission. There are no time constraints, but I call the shots. So if I think you're unfit to continue on, I will stop the exam. That is, unless you choose death."
Unlike the other exams, no one reacted to the comment. Ready to take on whatever was thrown at them. Working for ANBU was not for the feint at heart. Individuals with that mindset had already been weeded out of the running early on.
"You'll be called in a random order. Stand by until your name is announced. And don't forget, the Hokage and Council are watching."
Some anxiously paced as they waited once Ibiki left. Trying to prepare themselves for what may happen inside. Some names were called right away after the other, which was a clear indication that the ninja before them had not done well at all. Unless they somehow managed to complete the task fairly quickly. Though Ibiki wouldn't make things that easy. While other candidates spent nearly an hour or more inside. The wait began causing some to grow impatient. But the exam would carry out as long as it needed until every person had gone.
The walls were sound proof; unable to hear what exactly was going on inside the arena. Which made it impossible to gain an advantage to determine what was going on inside. They were smart to do that as Mai watched another ninja move inside. As the door closed, it blended into the wall. So far, the Be Fong had counted three different doorways that had appeared and disappeared. Meaning Ibiki was switching it up so not every course was the same.
"Mai Be Fong," a voice came over the speakers.
A few eyes drifted in her direction. The teen pushed off the wall and made her way over as a door opened.
"Can't fucking believe they're allowing a teenager that young to try out," she heard someone mutter. "What a waste of space."
With the twitch of a finger the young man's feet slipped out from under him. He landed roughly on his back, forcing the air from his lungs. Those around him backed away in confusion. No one had seen what hit him.
"I can't believe they allowed someone as blind as you to even make it this far," Mai clapped back.
He was red faced, humiliate and angered that a little girl had gotten the best of him before the door closed behind her. There was a Jounin standing in the new, small, cubical room, writing something on his clipboard.
"Be Fong?" the woman questioned.
She nodded.
"Step up to the line."
The Be Fong stepped up to the black streak painted on the floor. It faced a blank wall.
"We are good to go in here," she spoke into an earpiece.
