Your Second Anniversary

You closed the lid of your laptop and tried to force a smile. You had hung up 10 seconds ago, but already you felt the familiar wave of pain wash over you. You missed Harry with every fiber of your being.

“I’m so sorry we have to spend our second anniversary apart, baby. But we’ll Skype for sure, ok?” Harry had said to you on skype a few minutes ago. You told him that sounded awesome. You said it wasn’t perfect, but it would do, and that you’d be fine. But were you fine? You threw your head into your pillow before you started to cry. You weren’t mad at him. It was his dream, and you were so proud of him. But you never thought it was going to be this hard. Taking a deep breath you try to calm yourself down. You had to go to work tomorrow, and you didn’t want to look like you’d cried yourself to sleep.

As your alarm goes off you groan, and sit up. You throw yourself out of bed, sadness already creeping through your body. A picture of you and Harry last anniversary sits on your dresser, and you pick it up. This year isn’t going to be quite the same. You kiss your fingers and touch the frame, something you’ve done every morning since Harry left, and head downstairs to get yourself some breakfast.

The first thing you see when you get downstairs is your door, taped shut around the edges. You walk closer to see what it is, and see a note messily taped to the frame.

Oops, I butt dialed your boss…turns out you’re sick today! Go back to bed, babe! Love Hazz J

You laughed, wondering who Harry sent into this house to do this, and more importantly how they got out. You didn’t really want to know.  You head back up to bed with a huge smile on your face. It’s not quite like your romantic day in with Harry last year, but he’s trying, and that’s really sweet.  When you get up to bed, you fall asleep in an instant.

Suddenly “Little Things” is growing louder and louder, coming from your phone. You roll over completely refreshed. That extra little bit of sleep did wonders! When you grab your phone to turn it off, there’s a message on the screen.

Rise and Shine my love! Sorry to wake you, but you’ve got plenty to do today. First though, take a bubble bath. I bought your favourite, it’s under the sink J -Hazz

Smiling, you do just as he said, finding bubble gum scented bubble bath under the sink. Once the tub is full, you set the timer on the jets, and step in. Closing your eyes, you imagine what Harry might be doing right now. Is he awake? Is he thinking about you? You wonder if he ever thinks the same thing. If he does, you’re definitely thinking about him. You always are. He’s your other half. How can you go for months without your other half? The jets suddenly turn off, interrupting your thoughts. You pull the plug and step out, plugging in the blow dryer. Right before you turn it on though, your phone alarm goes off again. Putting down the dryer, you look at the screen.

I know you always put the timer on for 20 minutes, so you must be out. Get dressed quick, your lunch is on the way! Oh, and you might want to take the tape off the door—Hazz

Gosh, he was precious! How did he do all this from so far away? Did he hack your cell phone? You wanted to text him right away, ask him how he was, and thank him for everything, but you had a feeling he wanted all this to be an “adventure” of sorts. If you didn’t have to get ready so quickly, you might not have been able to help yourself. You throw your top on as you hear the door bell ring.

After you pull the tape off, you throw the door open. A young man stands there, holding a delivery bag, and an iPad. You take the bag from him, setting it on the counter.

“Thank-you!” You say, smiling.

“No problem miss, happy anniversary.” He hands you the iPad, and you look up at him questioningly. “It’s from him. I’m to tell you to look at the movies.” You can’t believe how far Harry has taken this.
