Cloud Recesses was in chaos.
A wedding was announced between not one, but two celestials, both immortals, one of them the second Jade of Gusu, Lan Wangji.
It remained somewhat of a mystery as to who the other celestial immortal was, but that did not mean the celebrations were any less extravagant.
Wei Ying had run away from all talk regarding the wedding, and Lan Zhan had seen this as an excellent form of arbitrarily giving him all control; and so Lan Zhan was wholeheartedly throwing himself into the wedding preparations.
This was endearing at first.
Wei Ying thought that Lan Zhan was the quietest person he ever knew, yet here he was, organising a attendance list of over one thousand guests.
This meant there was a lot to do, not just planning wise, due to accommodations for said guests, and menu decisions and seating arrangements etcetera, but where the wedding would take place and there was still the decorations to sort out, their wedding clothes and the organisation of the banquet to follow.
Wei Ying came to realise pretty quickly, none of this, was his forte.
The only person who shared his distaste for anything wedding related was Lan Qiren, and since he hated Wei Ying almost as much as wedding talk, it wasn't as if Wei Ying could hide in his rooms.
And what was worse, Lan Zhan's brother was even more enthusiastic about their wedding. He and the uncle were like polar opposites in how they were tackling the upcoming nuptials.
And it seemed, nowhere was safe.
In the Hanshi and the Jingshi, one or both of the Jades were present, and if Wei Ying was around, he would inevitably get roped into a discussion about cutlery, plates, and silk sashes.
Wei Ying didn't particularly care about cutlery, plates or silk sashes.
And he had voiced his displeasure so many times to his husband to be, yet Lan Zhan took some kind of perverse pleasure in purposefully dragging him to endless discussions.
In order to hide away from both the Lan brothers, because somehow where one was, the other would inexplicably turn up, like some kind of magical sixth sense, Wei Ying had taken to wearing the white Lan robes. His thinking was, if he blended in, he could escape their attention, but so far, he had been wrong in guessing their astute abilities.
Lan Zhan could always see him, no matter what he was wearing, and XiChen came a close second.
Wei Ying had tried hiding among the Lan Babies, but inadvertently ended up ruining their meditation class and word got around about the fun laoshi, reaching the ears of those who it would have been better had they never found out.
Then he had tried his luck with the teenagers, but since he had almost won against Lan Zhan in that first challenge, his fame preceeded him and whenever anyone asked where he was, those super helpful fans snitched on him without a qualm.
So Wei Ying had to get creative.
Right now, he was perched high up in the branches of the Great magnolia tree, just outside the Jingshi. He had discovered that the barren bulbs of the huge flowers worked as excellent ear plugs...plus the green canopy hid him from prying yellow eyes...
And resting after lunch with the bunnies was it's own reward...
He felt a tug on his ankle.
Oh no...
And then suddenly his body was covered by another, a harder one...one he recognised very well. Before he could open his eyes, he felt the band of cool silk tie behind his head and now he could not open his eyes. When he went to speak, a single solitary finger was placed upon his lips. Wei Ying nodded to show he understood.
