He heard muffled voices, several voices. He saw light flickering over him. He noticed how people touched him. But he could not move. He was trapped in a box. It was dark around him.

The nurses: inside, Tom's hand bandaged and then he was taken by ambulance to a hospital. Tom got everything this time. He noticed how he was being injected with medication through his access. He noticed how the pain got better afterwards. He also managed to open his eyes for a short time.

The paramedics: inside they tried to ask him questions about what happened, but he couldn't remember. It was as if he had just woken up again.

In the hospital, Tom also quickly came to the operating room because the hand had to be sewn.

The operation lasted 3 hours. His mother and brothers were waiting for him. His mother was chalk pale. Because she knew nothing about Tom's relapse.

Chris, one of his brothers, held her hand.

After what felt like an eternity, his mother and brothers were allowed to join him in the room.

The operation had gone well, the doctor had said. They were able to repair everything again, he will be able to use his hand normally afterwards. This reassured his mother a lot.

She sat down at his bedside. He looked so peaceful, she thought to herself. He had a lot of cables on his body. She took his hand. She was frightened because his hand consisted only of skin and bones. She was also cold. She started crying.

Tom slowly came to himself. Slowly he opened his eyes. He saw his mother and brothers.

He squeezed his mother's hand. "How beautiful you are awake," said Jonathan.

The four sat at his bedside for a while. Tom was still very tired, so he didn't say much. But feeling the presence of his family did him good.

After an hour, someone from the staff came into the room and said that the visiting time was over. Then Tom's brothers and his mother went. After his family left, a doctor came into the room to look at his hand. "It all looks good. Are you in pain?" he asked Tom. Tom shook his head. He had no pain. The sludge remedies helped.

Then the doctor left again.

The next morning, Tom was woken up by the sun shining into the room. He felt awake.

He took the cup of water standing next to him and tried to drink. He realized how weak he was. He couldn't even hold a cup. That was the moment when he realized that he had to fight. He couldn't go on like this.

A nurse came to his room and brought him his breakfast. Since he had only one hand, she helped him with the food.

After dinner, a nurse took him to the bathroom to take a shower. The fact that Tom is instructed to someone else is very difficult for him. Another reason to fight. He wants to live his life alone again and not always be dependent on someone.
