".....What is love?"
Everyone froze.
....Those three words.
Those three words that they can't explain.
Those three words that they can't express.
Those three words that even the smartest can't define.
Those three words that even Science can't explain.
Those three words that broke even the strongest.
Those three words that made despair turn into hope.
Those three words.
Everyone stopped what they're doing.
Even the most loudest ones clammed up, like someone just poured them a bucket of cold water.
Even the ones that are said to be always cheerful felt glum; as if their source of light was blocked by a cold, brick wall.
Even the people who likes to create silly, nonsense arguments froze; as if they were a movie on pause.
Even the others who were busy being in their head got pulled back to reality. Stunned; it took them quite a while before meeting their teacher's gaze.
Those three simple words.
The teacher on the other hand was a bit taken a back but she felt satisfied, seeing as she caught all of her students attention. They never listened, but this-- this moment? Everyone was quiet; It's as if it everything came to a halt. It's as if she waved her magic wand and made a miracle. Unusual, yet she gained the respect that wasn't given to her.
"I want to hear all of your answers, so we'll do this one by one."
Her shoes clacked across the room as she walked.
"This is not in alphabetical order, I'll divide you into three groups-- the left aisle, the center aisle, and the right aisle."
She walked towards her left, stopping in front of a student in the left aisle.
"...Starting with you."
--
"Love is painful.. and it doesn't do you anything good."
"Love is selfless, because you tend to put their happiness first."
"Love feels nice.. it makes a person feel warm and complete."
"Love destroys everything, one wrong move and it falls apart."
"Love is like fire.. you get too close, you burn."
"Love...saves people. It makes them feel that they deserve it... and that they are worthy of being loved."
"Love is like a drug. Once you're addicted, you don't know how to stop it anymore."
"Love is like taking a risk. It's either you have a happy ending, or you lose everything."
"Love is a waste of time. Yeah others think it's great and all, but overall its just a distraction and a waste of time."
"Love is a great feeling. It makes you do things that you didn't expect that you can do."
"Love just makes a person sad and lonely. It's unfair."
"Love is like tossing a coin. Waiting for the outcome to unfold is unpredictable."
"Love makes people foolish. They love then they get hurt. It's better to not love at all."
--
After she heard a lot of answers that both shocked and made her doubt what love truly is, she tried to regained her composure once again then proceeded to walk towards the seat by the back.
"As everyone had already mentioned their answer,
She mouthed as she stopped in front of the very last student, curiosity and intrigue reflecting her eyes.
"For you,
...What is love?"
The said student blinked first, then lifted his head to look at her. After maintaining eye contact, he gazed down on his armchair, where his fingers are twiddling together in silence. He remained like that for a while, having these series of thoughts running through his head.
After those long minutes at last, the student lifted his gaze, opening his mouth as he speak.
"For me... love is like.. a flower."
The teacher waited, but she didn't get any more words from the young man.
The teacher waited again after a long pause, but she heard nothing. She opened her mouth and asked the said student once again, a suppressed anticipation in her voice.
"Can you...elaborate? State us why?"
The student again looked up to her and met her gaze, then looking back down again on his fingers that looks like it's also waiting for his response.
"For me... Love is like.. a flower.."
"The way it blooms... its beautiful. and the way it wilts... is also beautiful."
Confusion scattered across her features, eyebrows knitting as she remained staring at the student.
"I know.. that too much desire can be poisonous..."
"However.. again, like a flower..
"I just love it a little too much."
