Cracks

Wanting to continue the newly made friendship, you suggested that Sergio join Camilo and you on the hangout you had both planned for the following day.

Unbeknownst to you, Camilo wasn't the biggest fan of this idea. It wasn't that he didn't like Sergio, he just feared he was going to interfere with your friendship. He didn't want to lose his best friend to someone else. This wasn't something that happened too often, you making friends. Not that you weren't capable of doing so, but you spent so much time with Camilo and his family that you didn't really find the need to find another friend. Although he was happy you met someone new, he didn't want it to come at the cost of the two of you. This was something minor though, he wasn't going to cry about it or anything it was just a fear in the back of his mind.

He swiftly hid this feeling behind a smile when you brought up the idea, even going as far to agree with you. To his disappointment, Sergio accepted the offer. He stared off as Sergio walked off with a smile after saying his goodbyes.

You turn around to Camilo, seeing his deadpanned stare lingering on Sergio's frame. Scrunching your brows, you snap your fingers in front of his face " 'Milo?" He quickly shakes himself out of his trance, looking back at you. "Oh sorry, just spaced out for a second there" He chuckles looking to the side, rubbing his neck with one hand and the other in a shrug.

He wasn't acting in a manner that you should be concerned about, so you shrugged it off just as he did. "Alright then. I should be going home now, it's late and I'm pretty sure my mama left a while ago." Turning on your heel you wave, "Goodnight! Te amo!" He waved back "Noches! Te amo mas!"

You begin walking down to your home, a light blush sprinkling your cheeks. The sayings were platonic, but you couldn't help but smile every time you heard Camilo saying he loves you whether it was platonic or not. It didn't take long for you to get there, the town wasn't too big.

Camilo headed back to the ceremony once you turned away, walking into a confusing scene. Mirabel was standing below the stairs, his abuela walking down to her as a crowd watched worriedly above.

"The cracks were there...They were everywhere." He begins getting closer while she continued. "The house was in trouble, the candle was..." She pauses, turning around. "Abuela I promise-"

"That's enough." Alma cuts her off. "There is nothing wrong with the casa madrigal. The magic is strong! And so are the drinks! Please, music. A bailar! A bailar!"

And with that, everyone but Camilo and Mirabel went back to the party in Antonio's new room. Camilo approaches her, placing a hand on her shoulder. "Mira.. what happened?" He questions, voice laced with genuine concern. "After you guys took the photo I decided to step out here for a bit." She begins. Camilo looks up in recollection, putting the hand that wasn't on Mirabel on his hip. "Yeah now that you mention it I didn't see you when we were posing." Mirabel nods. "Well when I came out, a piece of the roof fell off. When I went to go pick it up, casita began to crack. I don't know why, but the cracks were all over. And.." she pauses.

Camilo walks infront of her, raising his eyebrows and urging her to go on. "And?" Mirabel sighs, making eye contact with him. "The candle almost went out."

His eyes widen, processing what his prima had just told him. "What?" He questions, almost in a whisper. "The flame got smaller. And the doors started flickering. Abuela doesn't believe me, but the magic is in danger." He looks up at the candle, watching the flame sway to the sides.

"Do you think there's a way to save it?" He asks her, eyes still on the candle that gave his family a miracle. That gave their family their gifts.

Mirabel looks down at her sliced palm. "I hope so. But I've got to get my mama to heal this for me. It burns. Goodnight Camilo." She smiles at him, a smile of which he returned. "Night Mira."

He walked up the stairs, arriving to the door of his room. He placed his hand to the doorknob, looking up at the bright, lighted door that showed him and his gift. Sighing, he twists it open and goes inside.

You walk out of your home, fixing your hair. You asked Sergio to meet you by the fountain so the both of you could pick up Camilo.

Arriving there, you see the brunette you had befriended the day prior. "Sergio!" You exclaim, waving. His eyes meet yours, giving you a soft smile.

"Hola! Are you ready to go get your friend?" He questions, you nodding.

The both of you began to walk down to the casa madrigal. "So I take it you and this boy are really close?" He starts a conversation, catching your attention. "Oh yeah! Camilo and I have known each other since we were 4. He's amazing, I'm sure you guys would get along." He softly hums. "Yeah he seems pretty cool. What was his power again?"

"Shapeshifting, earned him the nickname chameleon from me. I rarely call him that anymore but I think it fits him great." You smile, turning to Sergio. "How are you adjusting to the move?"

He shrugs. He hadn't really done much since moving into the Encanto. His days mostly consisted of unpacking his things and going to a single shop. "Well I haven't really gotten the chance to do anything other than unpack. Today would be the first time I get to have fun here." You had both reached the entrance to the Madrigal home.

"Well, it's a good thing your first is with us!" You exclaim, knocking on casita's doors. They opened and you walked in, Sergio staying in his place.

You turn back to notice he was hesitating to walk inside. "It's fine, come in!" you snicker.

He slowly follows behind you. You heard Pepa in the dining room and went in to say hello to her.

"Buenas tardes Pepa" You say, catching her off guard.

She shrieks in surprise, a storm cloud forming above her.

Once she sees you the cloud disappears, getting replaced by a rainbow.

"Buenas tardes mi amor!" She exclaims embracing you in a hug. Pepa was always happy to see you. After all in her mind, you were her future daughter-in-law.

Her eyes land on the awkward boy standing behind you once you let go. "Oh! And who's this?" She asks with a sweet smile. "Hola.. I'm Sergio." He nervously answers.

She affectionately pats his shoulder. "It's nice to meet you Sergio. Camilo is in his bedroom mija."

You nod and rush up the stairs, dragging Sergio along right with you.

You knock on Camilo's door, patiently waiting for the door to slam open. You didn't have to wait more than 10 seconds.

Hearing the knock, Camilo rushes up from his bed. He ran a little too fast, almost crashing face first into the door.

Steadying his balance, he slams the door open. "Yes my package arrived!" He quickly throws his arms around you while you giggle. "Your order of a very attractive, smart, and funny best friend has been delivered." He backs away, both hands on your shoulders. "I don't think that was the description when I ordered." You raise your eyebrow, crossing your arms. "Oh yeah? Then what was the description?" He smirks at the question, then answering with, "If I remember this correctly.. It was something along the lines of a sarcastic, bossy, hard-headed, annoying-" He was cut off by his own laughter after seeing your un-amused face.

"Just kidding, you know I love you" he says, clenching onto his side in a fit of laughs. "It wasn't even that funny calm down" You shake your head. "You should have seen your face hermosa. It was priceless." He finally begins to catch a grip, then turning to Sergio, who had been once again, standing there awkwardly. Poor guy doesn't seem to get his presence known too easily.

Flatting his ruana down, he smiles at him. "Hey, sorry got a little carried away there. Good to see you though. Come in guys."
