My name is Y/N García, and I am completely ordinary. Except, of course, the fact that I live in a magical Columbian village run by a magical family, known as the Madrigals. Other than that minor detail, I am totally and utterly normal.

I live with my mother, Maria, my father, Luiz, my little sister Cecilia and my baby brother, Andres. Our house isn't as 'interactive' as the Madrigal's casita, but just as lively.

"Y/N! Y/N! Look! A Madrigal!" Cecilia pushed her face against the glass. So it was. Mirabel Madrigal was headed towards the Casita. My sister rushed towards the door and almost threw herself out of it. My mother sighed.

"Don't worry, Mamí, I got her," I reassured her, grabbing my bag and cardigan.

"Gracias, amor. Try not to-"

"Get in the way, I know." I kissed her on the cheek and left.

Cecilia was always hard to keep up with, today in particular. Today was no ordinary day, despite me wishing it was. Today was Antonio Madrigal's Gift Ceremony, which meant extra chores, extra cooking, and extra Cecilia.

She finally stopped in front of the Casita, along with Mirabel, Alejandra, and Juancho. There was discussion, then Cecilia turned to me disappointingly.

"She's got nothing," Cecilia muttered before heading back to the village with the other two kids. This left me and Mirabel. She turned to me, stared awkwardly, then left.

That was my first interaction with a madrigal, but not my last.

"Y/N!" Someone tapped my shoulder. Pedro stood before me.

"Pedro! Why are you here?" I asked surprisingly.

"My dad is delivering party supplies." He explained, "What's up?"

"Just trying to keep track of Cecilia, you know how it is." I laughed.

"So, do you think he's gonna get one?" Pedro asked in a hushed tone.

"Who? Get what?"

"Do you think the little Madrigal will get a gift?"

"I- what? Why do you wanna know?"

"Just... everyone has been on edge since little-miss-no-gift's ceremony, scared of the magic... breaking."

"I- I gotta go." I rushed away.

"Wait, Y/N..." His voice trailed off.
