Adam was getting increasingly nervous as we reached my parents’ house. He had insisted on leaving the very next day, who knows why. I don’t really think anything has changed between us, I like the dynamic. He is in charge, it’s simple, only now I know that I can talk and he cares and my opinions will be heard at least. I placed my hand on his leg, giving it a soft squeeze in an effort to calm him down a little.

“It’ll be fine Adam. I swear.”

“What if it’s not? What if they work it all out?”

“I won’t let anyone take you from me Adam.” I frowned. “They won’t okay. You brought me back to them, remember?” He nodded. “They are more likely to be grateful.”

“You think?”

“Stop being negative Adam. I told you, no one will take you away from me. Who’s going to say you took me? Is there any evidence?”

“You’re right.” He sighed. “Sorry.”

“Don’t apologise. It’s all going to be fine.” He smiled when he saw how hopeful I was, to make it easier for him to keep calm I wore one of his jumpers. An over the head hoodie, in the hope that he’d remember I belong to him and not do anything stupid. I wore some denim shorts too, because it was pretty damn hot. Speaking of hot, so was Adam. A tight fitting colourful shirt with jeans that showed off every part of him. Damn he was sexy.

“Is it this one?” He pointed at one of the houses.

“Yeah.” We pulled up outside, Adam being a gentleman opened the door for me. How things have changed. Is this relationship weird? Of course it is. I mean, he kept me captive for a month. But, it wasn’t all bad and I fell in love. The heart wants what it wants after all. I gave him a kiss on the lips and held his hand tight in mine.

“Listen baby, it’ll all be fine.” He gave me a comforting smile, perhaps sensing my sudden anxiety. We reached the door and knocked, after only seconds the door opened. I was pulled into a bone crushing hug before I’d been able to say hello.

“Oh Nat! I thought you were gone!” My mum cried into my shoulder.

“I’m back Ma. All thanks to Adam.” It was then she looked properly.

“Is that Adam Levine?” I managed a little laugh.

“Yeah, can we come in?” Adam shook her hand as we walked inside, where I was squashed by my Dad. He then gave Adam a strange look.

“How did you come across my daughter?” He asked suspiciously, I slapped his arm.

“Dad. Don’t be mean. I was wandering through the woods, I didn’t want to be by a road in case they found me. But, you see I found this house pretty much in the middle of nowhere. I knocked on the door, I was so hungry and thirsty and in a lot of pain. Imagine my surprise when Mr Levine opened the door. He didn’t know what had happened to me, I didn’t tell him. Instead I said I was lost, that I had been hiking alone on a gap year. I don’t know why I lied to him. Eventually I opened up to him.” I was impressed with my skills there, that was some pretty awesome lying.

“He didn’t think to call the police? Didn’t recognise you?”

“I’m sorry sir, but I tend to stay away from the news as much as possible. There isn’t much service out there, I was writing for my next album. That place is my retreat and when she showed up. Well, I was too preoccupied in nursing her back to health to turn on the TV or check the news.” We both smiled at each other, not because of the story. I don’t know why really, it just felt right.

“But.”

“Dad. Leave him alone.” I snapped. “Adam brought me back here. He didn’t have to. He looked after me. He didn’t have too. I love him, alright and I’m happy with him. So please just leave him alone.”

“Aren’t you traumatised?”

“For fuck sake. You sound like you want that? I’m fine, everything is fine.” Adam pulled me close to him, pressing his lips to my ear.

“Do you want to leave?” He asked quietly, I looked up at him eyes full of sadness. He nodded in understanding. “Look, I brought her here because I love her. It means the world for her to be back to you, she was worried sick about you two when she finally told me the truth about who she was and why she was out. But, I won’t stand here and watch you interrogate her. She doesn’t need that, not from you. We managed to get through the worst of all this.” Adam spoke up, holding me protectively.

“Nat, I didn’t mean it like that. It’s just the police…”

“I don’t want to talk about them.” I interrupted. “There is nothing that can be done. I know nothing about my attackers, nothing at all. I was locked in a dark room alone most the time, when they did come in it was too dark to see. And then there was too much pain to think. So don’t talk about the police.” Adam relaxed beside me, I hadn’t realised he was tense.

“They are worried, this is unusual.” Ma started.

“Oh, I can’t do this. Adam can we go home please?”

“Are you sure babe?” He looked over at my parents.

“Yes. Bye Ma, bye Dad. I’ll be in touch. I just, I need time. And I think you two just don’t understand what I can and can’t talk about.” I hugged them quickly before leaving with Adam. “Sorry for wasting your time.” I sighed, suddenly realising what it took for Adam to do this.

“You didn’t.” I pulled him into a kiss, unable to resist those tight jeans any longer. He grabbed my thighs and pulled me up, letting me wrap myself around him. Soon we were pressed against the door of the car, Adam’s lips not leaving mine. It was passionate, with a little bit of lust thrown in. I mean, there usually is, because one of us is always attracted to the other. Always ready for a little bit of fun.

“Adam.” My Dad cleared his throat, Adam turned to look, but didn’t put me down. It may have something to do with hiding his bulging erection but I won’t mention it.

“Yes sir.”

“I just ask that you look after her. She deserves the best.” Dad’s voice had a hint of disapproval which irritated me even more.

“I’ll try my hardest sir. She means the world to me.” Anything else my Dad said was lost to me, I turned Adam’s head towards me and kissed him again. This time more forcefully, I refused to let him pull away. Eventually I risked a look to see my Dad was gone.

“Let’s get home.” I smiled.

“Sounds like a plan.” Adam helped me into the car and soon we started the drive back to his house. I know he has The Voice coming up soon, I just don’t know what is happening yet. I’m too afraid to ask him.
