"You are amazing, you know" Selim muttered beside me. I smiled up at him before turning back to watch as guards escorted Beyazid into the palace in Manisa. He scoffed and glared at the back of one of the guards' heads.
"He should know not to mess with you" I answered shrugging. I turned around and looked up at Selim. He smiled down at me and leaned down kissing me straight on the lips.
"I will see you later" he whispered in my ear before leaving me alone on the terrace. I sighed and turned around. My eyes widened when I found Beyazid staring straight at me with a glare set on his face. I wished that none of what happened was true, I wished it was a dream and that our friendship remained instead of his insecurities causing a war.
"Sultanim, Cihan Hatun is ready," Esma Hatun said earning my attention from Beyazid. I turned around to face her. I nodded and walked back into my room with a lump in my throat but I forced it down.
"Sultanim" a beautiful woman bowed to me. Her brown her reached just above her waist and her doe eyes shined under the sunlight streaming through the window.
"Cihan Hatun, tell me what have you found out during the months you've been in Konya?" I asked sitting down on the couch in my room.
"Many things, however, the most dangerous would be the fact that Sehzade Beyazid married Huricihan Sultan in secret, " she said. A wide smile appeared on my face knowing I could use this to push Beyazid away from the throne, of course, I didn't want to kill my childhood friend but if it came to killing him to keep my husband and children safe then killing him I will.
"You know what to do, Esma Hatun" I turned to my loyal maid. She bowed and left the room. I turned back to Cihan Hatun who had a wide smile on her face knowing she was of help.
"Now tell me, have you reached his room yet?" I asked curiously. Cihan grinned and nodded her head.
"Good" I stood up and walked over to my vanity table. I picked up a box and held it out for her to take. She gasped when she opened the box and saw what was inside of it.
"Poison?" She looked up at me and then back down at the box.
"I want him gone by the end of the month" I stepped closer to her. She looked up at me wide-eyed.
"Are you up for it or should I find someone else?" I asked taking the box from her and handing it to Emine Hatun. Cihan gulped under the pressure of my words.
"Because if you're not then I'll find someone else to do it" I hissed raising a hand and wrapping it around her throat. I pushed her back slowly against the wall trying and succeeding in creeping fear into her. A tear left her eyes as I put pressure on her throat and began cutting the air from coming into her body.
"You are my mistress and my life is nothing if not spent serving you" she mumbled. I let go of her throat and fixed a piece of her hair as she panted letting her fear melt away.
"Good girl" I patted her chin. I handed her the box again. She bowed and left the room with Emine Hatun.
"Sultanim" I turned to look at Esma as I swayed Orhan. I nodded for her to proceed with whatever she wanted to say.
"Sehzade Selim invited you to dine with him and Sehzade Beyazid" I raised my eyebrow but handed Orhan without question to one of the maids.
"Alright" I placed on my headscarf before making my way to Selim's room. I walked in to find the two brothers already sitting on pillows with the food table in between them.
"Sehzades" I bowed to them. Beyazid looked up with anger while Selim looked at me with a smile.
"Here comes the liar" Beyazid hissed glaring at me. I frowned confused by his words.
"Liar? When have I ever lied to you?" I asked sitting down beside Selim. I was afraid to be closer than I already was to Beyazid, he goes crazy when he's angry.
"You said you loved me. You said I was like a brother to you yet now you are plotting against me and siding with him" Beyazid slammed his fist down on the table causing the plates and cups to rattle.
"He's my husband!" I yelled angrily glaring at him. Selim sighed shaking his head and turned away from us.
"I could have been your husband!" Beyazid yelled back. I froze at his words. Selim turned to look at Beyazid who was breathing heavily.
"You should have married me instead. You should have loved me instead of this drunk" Beyazid pushed himself up. He pointed accusingly at Selim. Suddenly the happy moments with Beyazid after I married Selim made sense, the sadness in his eyes, the humor to hide his hurt.
"What did you say?" Selim stood up pushing the table causing all of the food and played and cups to go flying around the room. The doors opened and aghas ran in because of the commotion.
"Out!" Selim ordered. They scrambled back out fearing their prince.
"I said she should have married me instead of you. You are a drunk and do not deserve to even look at her" Beyazid was obviously now trying to get on Selim's nerves.
"Shut up" Selim charged at Beyazid. At the last second, I pulled him back and moved to stand in between the two men.
"That's enough you two are acting like children" I hissed glaring at the two. It was like old times all over again when they used to fight when we were younger and I had to break them apart.
"Didn't know you hated the truth, Meylisah" Beyazid snickered. I turned to face him fully. Selim tried to get to him again but I placed my arm in front of him making him stop.
"The truth is that I love Selim, I've loved him since we were children and I will always love him no matter what. He is the father of my children and the man I want by my side" Beyazid seemed taken aback by my statement.
"Get out of my province and never show me your face ever again" Selim ordered. He was panting from how angry he was. Selim moved to the side pulling me with him so we cleared the way towards the door.
"Fine" Beyazid made his way towards the door. I sighed and moved to the side rubbing my face exhausted mentally over what happened only seconds ago.
"On second thought" I turned around abruptly to find Beyazid pulling out his dagger. My heart stopped as he charged at Selim. I barely had a second to jump in the middle.
I gasped when I felt the dagger impale me. I panted staring wide-eyed at a horrified Beyazid who was still holding the hilt of the sword. Selim immediately wrapped his arms around me from behind as I fell down to the floor.
"Meylisah, my love" Beyazid whispered low enough that only he and I heard despite Selim being so close but his screams for help muffled what Beyazid said.
"Never- c-call me that" I hissed glaring at Beyazid. I raised my leg and placed my foot on his chest and pushed with whatever strength I had, causing him to fall on his back. I placed my hand over the wound and brought it up to my face hoping this was a dream but was met with bloody fingers.
"Meylisah, keep your eyes open" Selim ordered placing his hand on the dagger to keep it in place so no blood would spill out.
"The doctor is coming" he whispered in my ear. He fixed my position so he could see me better. My eyes were getting droopy and my ears were beginning to ring.
"I love you, Sehzade with the red hair" I whispered his old nickname. I felt myself slowly losing consciousness as Selim yelled for a doctor however I couldn't hear his scream as my eyes rolled to the back of my head and darkness overtook my vision.
