Her sleeping form brightens by the light outside her window, the rays of sunlight luck through the curtains, softly lighting up her room. It makes its way over to the four poster bed where she is in a not so restful sleep. Her weak whimpers were the only sound coming from the house that morning.
A small son escapes her lips as she continues to thrash. Plumage she screams out is when her mother comes rushing in. Her mother is in her Silk pajamas with those dark circles under her eyes. She makes her way over to her daughter's bed.
Now she, her daughter, is wide awake. Her mom brushed the blonde hair behind her ear which was once on her forehead. "What happened?" Her mother asks gently, afraid to stir her up again.
"Bad dreams" her daughter mumbles. Her mother looks down I her little three-year old girl with a sympathetic smile. "it's okay Leola, you're safe now. " Her daughter, Leola, forces a weak smile on her face.
"Mommy?" Leola says.
" yes baby? " Her mother turns as she walks out of the room.
"What happened to daddy?" Her mother's smile wipes off her face.
" You know... Let's talk about this when your older. " Her mother replies softly.
"Okay, mommy. Goodnight" Leola says as she snuggled into her bed covered with blankets.
"Goodnight." Her mother whispers. But she knows that she herself will not be having a very good sleep. After all, the love of her life is dead. How is she supposed to go on?
She walks slowly to her room. The room they shared for so long before the incident. But her daughter was still too young to learn about that. She lays on her bed and starts to weep.
Her daughter is still awake in her room. Afraid to go back into the realm of nightmares. She suddenly heard her mother sailing in her room. She quietly slips out the door and walks to her mother's room.
She is on the bed crying.
The little girl curled up to the saddened mother, little did she know what her presence did to her mother.
Eight years later
"Mom! It's fine! I can do it!" 1 1 year old Leola said to her mother as she got ready for to her third week of sixth grade.
"I just don't want you to overwork yourself," her mother replied. "Momma, I'm fine. Really."
Her mother had been concerned about her, as any decent parent would be, after they found out about her rare type of cancer.
Leola came up and kisses her mother's cheek. "I'm going to school now. I love you" she hugged her and let go.
"bye mom!" She yelled out the door.
" Bye Leola! " she shouted as her daughter ran to the bus.
