You wake up, your head buzzing with pain. Looking around, you notice the fuzzy white and blue tiles. You're still in the hospital, and judging by how cold you are, you are on the floor.
You remember. You had run here after telling the truth, locking yourself away. You can still remember their faces.
Aubrey's furious gaze, Hero's distraught motions, Kel's unapproving glance, and Basil's...
Basil.
You remember him, bloodied and bruised. That was you.
That was your fault.
You felt responsible for all of this.
If only you hadn't broken your violin. If only you hadn't gotten angry at Mari.
If only...
...you hadn't pushed her down the stairs.
You look at the ground, letting your bare feet take you to the only destination you desire.
Death.
You just want it to stop. You don't want to see Something anymore. You can't take it.
You feel yourself on top of the ledge, the last step to freedom.
You can feel the cold air as your about to take a step.
Your final step.
You are stopped. Stopped by a force stronger than you.
"I WON'T LET YOU GO!" You hear a voice scream in your ear. You stop and turn around and see the person you least expected to see.
You see Basil and feel his arms around your torso. He refused to let go of you until you stepped off the ledge.
"Please don't go..." Basil sobbed, giving you a hug.
Your world stopped immediately, freezing in this moment.
You let him hug you, slowly bringing your arms around him too. You start to feel a few tears trickle down your face. You close your one remaining eye and hug Basil back with all of your might.
"It's over, Sunny....they forgive us."
You disagree in your head. Basil continues.
"Aubrey...right after you ran away..."
"She---hugged me."
Your grip slightly loosened on Basil. Aubrey...forgiving him?
You ask Basil why she forgave him.
"To be honest. I was confused too. But after she explained that we were kids and it wasn't our fault, I started to understand."
"Hero was the worst of them...but he came around too...eventually..."
"And Kel...well he agreed with Aubrey quickly. You know how he is."
"...Sunny...we WERE kids. Please. You have to forgive yourself...I forgive you."
Your head collapses into Basil's shoulder. It's too much. You don't even care that you are still crying.
You tell Basil that it's hard to but you'll try.
Basil pats you on the back.
"I know you can do it."
