Mika had been ignoring and avoiding Kōtarō.
It was obvious to him as soon as she saw him sitting next to where she usually sat in math, watching her immediately sit on the other side of the room.
He felt awful.
Kōtarō wasn't sure what he had done, as it was almost impossible for him to talk to her. Yet he knew it had to do with him.
"Keiji, I'm struggling here," he sighed, talking to Keiji Akaashi over Facetime. "She keeps avoiding me. I don't know what I did.
"I went through our whole date through my head, but I can't figure it out."
"Did you serenade her?" Keiji asked. "Because we both know how that went last time you did it."
"Keiji- I'm being serious," Kōtarō pleaded. "I know that when I tried serenading you in high school it didn't work out. But I even told her I can't sing."
"Sorry," Keiji said. "Tell me what happened and I'll try to figure something out, not that it'll work."
"Well, you already know the cafe part," Kōtarō said. "On the actual date, we went to a concert that a local band was playing at since she likes music."
"Mhm, okay."
"After the concert, we went to a hotpot," Kōtarō explained. "While we were eating she seemed a bit off at the beginning, but she settled into it- at least I think she did."
"Did you say anything dumb at any point?" the latter asked, raising an eyebrow.
"I don't think so," Kōtarō said. "But now she won't even respond to my texts. She hasn't blocked me, she just ignores me."
"Have you tried talking to her in person?" Keiji asked, causing Kōtarō to frown. "Okay, I'm assuming you have. She avoids you in person too?"
"Ten points to Keiji," he said. "It's so weird. Everything was just fine the last time we talked. I just really like her.
"She cuts to the chase, doesn't treat me like I'm some sort of god. She's real with me. She's just so likable."
It was Keiji's turn to sigh, looking lost in thought.
"I can tell you like her, Kō," he said. "I'm not sure what you can do, to be honest. You can try to talk to someone she's close with. You told me she's friends with Ushijima, right?"
"They were classmates throughout high school," Kōtarō nodded, realizing what Keiji was implying he could do. "But I feel bad learning about her personal life from someone else who's not Mika, it feels wrong."
"You're not learning her life story, just a little more about her," Keiji said.

"Losing you" Boy Pablo.
"For the First Time" Mac DeMarco.
"Was It Something I Said" MyKey.
Only four of the dozens of songs Kōtarō had added to the playlist since Mika had stopped talking to him.
It was obvious he was trying to tell her something; it was something she didn't want to see.
He missed her.
Yet, it only occupied part of Mika's mind at least five times a day.
She was still trying to figure out who she was, nothing really clicking in her brain that sounded right.
