"May you and your half have a long healthy flight," whispers an ancient voice as all returns to darkness.

In a large round white stoned building stand a group of fifty hood-covered youths from various places across the kingdom. One by one their respective names are called to be tested in the center of the building's once shiny red clay floor.

If the test is passed, the youth can uncover their hood and proudly walk toward the next building where they will wait for instructions from the academy's professor on how to care for their half. However, if they do not pass they'll be given two more chances, once each year, to see if they'll be gifted. If not, then they are to search for another academy, for it is inappropriate to attend this particular place without the presence of the other.

"Please step forward heir apparent of the Dukedom of Toula," respectfully bows a professor with long green hair from La Sombra Academia.

A tall youth dressed in a fine rich silky black robe with an equally fine texture hood covering his face, elegantly walks toward the professor who is placed standing near the center of the building.

When the youth finally reaches the center, he then places his sleeve covered hands to the middle of this thorax, then calmly circles one hand above and one below to form a circle. As he begins to meditate, a soft auburn light can be seen enveloping him. At the center of his hands, the light around him begins to concentrate there turning into a lighter yellowish color. As the light grows, his hands automatically widen. His upper hand, every going higher, shows glimpses of delicate looking warm skin tone. To further indicate who he is, on the same upper hand a brilliant large ruby ring is firmly placed on his finger.

Nevertheless, the people's eyes are not on the expensive hereditary ring, but at the center of his hands. The once bright yellow light then slowly darkens into an oval light purple colored shape.

Noticing the color, the youths murmur in awe but dare not speak out loud for fear of distracting this powerful youth and thus gaining the anger of his family if it comes to be known that the ritual backfired because of them.

Thankfully, it did not take long for the light to dwindle, leaving a deep plum colored purple egg held gently in the youth's firm hands.

"Congratulations Cairo Toula, may you and your half have a long healthy flight," says the professor as he lightly bows and then signals for the young men to follow the path to the building where the others have also passed the test.

The youth, keeping up with the custom, slightly bows his head in acknowledgement and walks out of the building with a gentle relieved smile held underneath his hood.

Author's Note:

Been a while that I've tried to write a medieval fantasy book. Hoping that this one turns okay and pardon me if I end up getting things wrong.
