Emily played her mystery game on her phone. They clues were: Joshua was the victim. Mr. Joseph wasn't there, but Miss Smith and Mr. Watson was. Miss Smith was playing chess with Joshua. The weapon wasn't a knife or regular killing device.
"So, which is it?" Emily's little sister asked, completely confused by the clues. "Molly, it's Miss Smith. She killed Joshua with a chess piece." "You're super duper good at this game!" Molly commented, impressed. " You always know the killer and the weapon before I have any clue! Have you been practicing without me? " Molly looked her sister straight in the eye, holding back her laughter. "No. I just know, I guess. You can laugh now..." Emily chuckled at her sister's attempts to not burst out laughing.
Molly began laughing hysterically. "You always have!" She laughed. Emily looked at Molly in amusement. Then, Emily's phone started to ring. "Hold up, Molly." Emily out her index finger to her lips, signaling to be quiet. Then she answered.
" Hello? " Emily greeted the caller. "Hi, Emily." Emily recognized the voice almost instantly. "Hi, Jayden. Why are you calling today? " Emily twirled a loose price of her hair. Jayden was Emily's secret crush. She's never told anyone. "Well, I found out about this mystery down in the Panther Cove area. Wondered if you'd be interested." Jayden informed her. He could not see her blushing at the way he knew her. It was odd, but most of her friends knew her interests and dislikes. Jayden was one of those people. " Really? That'd be fun, but I don't have a babysitter for Molly. Besides, where is Panther Cove? " "It's a mile North from Wild Creek. Most people haven't heard about the property, well, until the robbery. The folks say they don't want to pay big bucks for a detective, so the robber has gotten away with it... For now, at least." " Wow. Sounds interesting. You know, I bet I can hire a babysitter to watch Molly. " "Great! I'll pick you up at 9:00 tomorrow?" " Pick me up? " "Yeah. You wouldn't mind my taking you and helping with the case right?" Emily blushed at the mere thought. "No, no. It's fine." "Great! 9:00 then?" " Yes, that's fine. "
"Girls, I'm home!" Mom yelled coming in the door. "Hey Mom! All I have is a request. Can I solve a mystery down at Panther Cove?" Emily asked hurriedly. "What, sweetie? I didn't hear you. No, wait, I'll get dinner on the table an then you tell me all about it.
"Alright, unfortunately, fast food it is. It's on the table. Enjoy, girls! Now, what did you need to tell me, Emily? " They all sat at the table. "Ah, well, my friend, um, Jayden told me about this mystery down on the Panther Cove property. There was a robbery, and he thinks I'll be a good candidate for the case. Says I'd just be away for a few days, so it really won't be a problem, and it's perfectly safe. So, can I go? Jayden offered to take me tomorrow, and I've already arranged for babysitter for Molly."
Emily waited patiently while her mom was silent, deep in thought. Despite herself, she began to speak. "I think you could go, but with a boy? That's not really-" "You misunderstood, mom. It would be very professional." " In that case, I suppose. When will you leave, honey?" "Tomorrow. I can't wait. And um, mom? Can I sort of kinda maybe borrow your suitcase? " Mom sigh. "Yes, now finish your food so you can go to bed early. You'll need plenty of rest. You'll simply have to pack in the morning."
Emily finished her food and then went to bed early. I'm the morning, she was up before her mom and was already done packing by 8:00. "Mom! Jayden's going to pick me up in an hour!" Mom woke up. " Oh, yes, I'll be ready to send you off by then. " She yawned sleepily. As if by a miracle, Mom was ready in 45 minutes, just enough to help her daughter with the rest of the things she needed. There was a honk outside. "Must be Jayden. Come on, Mom."
Emily grabbed her stuff and put it in the car while her mom talked to Jayden. "You will take good care of her, correct?" "Yes. I know she simply adores her mystery game on her phone. That's why I thought of her when I found out, and I do love a little mystery myself." Mom talked with him the entire time Emily out her things in the vehicle. "Mom, we have to go. Bye!" Emily waved as she got in the car. "Oh, yes, bye, sweetie!" Mom was waving the entire time they were pulling out and leaving.
