Treacherous

Sneak Attack

I released the string with one swift movement and in seconds the deer fell to ground. It's the fourth day here in the 100th Games, and so far only 5 kids have died since the Bloodbath.

"Get another one, Brielle?" Martin asks me. I snap my heads towards him and nod. He helps me carry the deer back to the hole.

Martin and I crawl in and are surprised to see Ava and Luis sitting there.

"Guys, we've been talking and," Ava glances at Luis for help.

"The only way we can win is if we take down the Careers." Luis finishes.

"Well, duh." Martin says rolling his eyes.

"Like today." Ava explains.

"Oh."

"How about a sneak attack?" I suggest.

"Yeah!" Luis agrees.

Martin suddenly speaks up.

"You know, we don't even know how old each other are."

Ava narrows her eyes. "What?"

"Well, don't you think it would be better to know your ages." Martin suggests.

"Okay... well i'm 15." Ava tells him.

"I'm 13." I chime in.

"I'm 14." Luis says.

"I know Milly is 11." Martin explains, "And i'm 13."

"Percy was 12." Ava whispers.

"Okay, back to the sneak attack." I say.

"How about we surround their camp, then at night we go in for the kill?" Ava volunteers.

"Okay." I agree. The others nod their heads.

"Hey guys! I'm back!" I hear Milly squeak. I would've never guessed she was 11. She's tall.

We fill her in on the plan.

"Sounds great." Milly tells us, but she looks scared. I suddenly feel more protective of her now that I found that she's 11.

BOOM! BOOM!

Two more deaths today and we don't bother looking to see who died. We wait patiently for night to come............

LATER

"Brielle."

"W-what?" I rub my eyes and sit up.

"Come on." Ava tells me. Her and the rest of the gang are all ready to go.

I grab my bow and we crawl out the hole. We sneak quietly in a line, with Martin first, then Luis, then Ava, then Milly, then me so I can shoot from a distance.

We finally find the Career camp. They are all sound asleep, with Alexi clutching a knife.

I shoot an arrow at the going fire and see it grow brighter and sparks fly off. The Careers are awake.

They all scream. Knifes start flying at us, but we dodge them. Milly launches a knife at the boy from 1 and it hits him in the leg, causing him to collapse.

"Oh Brielle," Alexi sneers. "See you've brought some friends."

Her knife is chucked at Martin and I can't bear to watch.

I hear a cry of pain and Ava scream. Before I realize it hit Martin I shoot another arrow at Alexi. She reacts quickly, ducking before it can find her.

I suddenly feels a hand grasp around my quiver. I start to scream and see the girl from 4 carrying all my arrows. She snaps them in two, causing me to shout and grab one of Luis's daggers.

I spin around, so fast I can hardly been seen and plunge the knife into the gut of another boy from 2. I hear him fall to the ground behind me, where he had been standing all along, ready with a sword. I saw this is the reflection in one of Alexi's knifes.

It's amazing how I smirk just before I realize Martin is dead.
