I breathed in the scent of coffee as I looked around my safe haven, my second home. 'Mary and Robert's Diner' was the place I went for peace even though, being a waiter, I know how chaotic it can get especially after school, its where everyone goes after work or school. The diner was basically a time machine to the 50s. Its an exact replica of what a 50s diner would look like except with a wider and more modern menu and a small library in the corner all the way to the back.
"Willow! There's a customer at table 5! No slacking girl!" yelled my manager, second best friend, and owner of the diner sternly but teasingly, effectively breaking me out of my usual 11:55 trance of the chic diner.
"Yes sir!" I replied mockingly, adding the salute at the end just to annoy him. I grabbed my writing pad from my apron and walked to the lone figure at the table in the corner, hearing Rob chuckle and most likely shaking his head at me, I slipped into my cheerful waiter persona. Normally no one is here at this time, it being almost midnight, but we always have new customers at the most unexpected times. "Hello, what can I get for you tonight?" I asked the man cheerfully, not yet looking up from my pad.
"Just a black coffee." rumbled a deep, suave voice effectively making me look up from my pad and what I saw was a sight to behold. His perfect jaw and straight narrow nose was the first thing I noticed. His hair was a dark brown almost black color, but his most attractive feature was his dark chocolate eyes that seem to allure even the most devoted nun. This early twenty something man just screamed sex and passion.
The ringing of the office phone broken me out of my ogling and giving a faint smile and a nod I asked, "anything else?"
"I'll be having someone else come in a few minutes but for now, that's it." his deep voice replied.
Turning around and shaking my head to clear my head of sexy men, I walked to the counter playfully slapping the pad on the table I told Rob in a mock stern voice, "a black coffee no sugar or cream come on Rob, no slacking!"
"Ya, ya, ya. I got it." he said waving me off.
"Willow!" I turned around and looked at Mary, a curvy old lady that looked younger than her 80 old self should be. "I'll take care of table 5, Ethan's on the phone. Go on now your shift is over anyways. But hurry it up, it might be something important, the poor baby sounded half scared to death!"
I felt the color drain out of my face and my heart accelerate as I ran to the office, expecting the worse, I picked up the phone. "Ethan? Ethan what happened?" I asked desperately hoping that it won't be that bad.
"He's back Willow, with a gun..." squeaked his tiny voice.
With my body filling with dread I muttered a quick, "I'll be right there..." and hung up. Running out of the office I took off my apron and hurriedly hung it up as I grabbed my bag and ran out of the office.
"Willow, honey, what happened?" Mary's concerned voice called after me.
Forcing a smile onto my face, I turned around and saying, "nothing Mary, don't worry it's just that Ethan spilled hot chocolate all over Seth. See you tomorrow!" I yelled turning around to open the door, but just running into a wall. Well, it was a wall until it grabbed me by the waist and I looked up and saw a pair of dark blue, almost black, eyes that gave nothing away except mystery. Looking up I saw onyx black hair peeking out of his black hood leaving no more to show except for a god like face with eyes that spoke of dangers that could leave you breathless.
And I thought the other guy was the ultimate hot machine.
"Sorry..." I breathe out, but then slipping out of his hold when I remembered the reason why I was in a hurry. Giving the man a tight lip smile I slipped past him and broke out into a run once I was outside.
Please, please don't let him do anything to them... please, I sent my silent plead to no one in particular, just someone that would listen and care.
