_____

School was due to go back tomorrow, and Flynn still hadn't called me his girlfriend. A part of me was wary about how he'd react around me in front of others. Sure, he liked me. Sure, he spent most of his time with me. And sure, labels shouldn't really matter... But I really wanted to be able to call him my boyfriend. My first boyfriend.

I know what you're thinking. 'Callie, if it bugs you that much, then why don't you ask him?'

Shut up.

I know.

But you should know me by now... I lack the confidence to talk truly about my heart.

Which was why, the night before term three would resume, we had finished dinner and were curled up in my bedroom. Under my blanket, I was laying between Flynn's legs, his arms around me, my laptop sitting in my lap as we watched Star Wars.

Disinterested in the movie though, I kept tilting my head back to stare at him. Eyes locked on the screen, he haphazardly pressed his lips to my head, never breaking his focus on the screen.

Irked by his lack of attention, I shifted in his grip, turning my head so that I could stare at him more easily.

Again, he pressed his lips to my head, but still maintained an unwavering concentration on my laptop.

With a sigh, I turned back in his hold and pressed the spacebar on my laptop.

"Hey," Flynn groaned just before I turned around.

"We need to talk," I started, not sure how to approach the topic that was worrying me. Not sure if I wanted to even say the very words tugging at my heart. But also hoping I could hint the way there until he quelled my fears.

"Right now? In the middle of the good bit?" he asked, eyes flickering between me and the screen.

But I nodded, face firm. "You have to go in half an hour."

With a sigh, he shuffled upright, leaning around me to shut the laptop before pulling it from my lap and placing it on the bedside table.

Arms winding around me, he then dragged me onto his lap, twisting me until I was plopped on him, facing him as my legs straddled his hips.

"What's up?" he asked, eyes scanning my face.

"I, um," I started, looking away from his intense eye contact, not expecting him to outright ask me this.

"You said we had to talk, so what do you want to talk about?"

"I, uh... didn't think you'd be looking at me," I confessed, looking everywhere but his eyes, wondering where I could hide my head while I thought about how to push the conversation where I needed it to go.

"You didn't think I'd be..." he said, repeating my words, though trailing off at the end. But as the confusion left his tone, his hand then came to my cheek, gently cupping it as he tilted my head upwards, forcing me to look at him. "What's wrong, gorgeous?" he asked, soft smile tugging at the corner of his lips.

A little bashful at the term of endearment, I squirmed out of his hold, burying my head into his neck.

"Oh," he said as I wound my arms around him and snuggled my burning face into him. "Why are we blushing again?"
