It was late in the afternoon the next day when I returned back to the attic. Davina was upset, she hated me being out all hours of the night. I imagine some of that anger stemmed from the fact Marcel wouldn't even dare to let her out. My twin was starring intently at several spell books, reading over everything twice. I plopped down beside her, leaning against the iron frame of my bed. I poked my sister, wanting her attention.

"Don't be mad at me, Vina."

Davina sighed, closing the spell book. "I'm not mad at you. I'm worried about you."

"Why?" I asked, resting my head on her shoulder. "I haven't done anything to anger the witches."

"No, but the old ones are running around the quarter and I don't want them to hurt you."

"I haven't met them. Marcel's kept me out of the quarter. In the Abattoir and back here, " I lied, shielding my face with my hair. Davina could always tell when I was lying, she could see straight through me. Unfortunate consequence of being a twin.

"Good. I met Rebekah, we had a little chat and I erased her memory."

"The stiff's sister?"

She nodded. "Marcel asked me to figure out how to kill him."

My eyes flickered over to the open coffin. The dagger lay on top of leather bound book, a layer of blood coating the blade. My eyes closed for a minute, realizing Davina's foolish mistake yet I didn't dare to say anything. Not with the knowledge I now knew.

"Look at you. Don't you know it's not safe to wonder around at night?"

Sophie. I turned on my heel. "Don't you know it's not safe? No one's going to hurt me."

"You don't know the evil that walks among this city."

"Get over yourself, Sophie," I growled. "You don't like me, I don't like you. End of story."

"You knew!" She yelled. "You knew what was going to happen! You could have stopped it."

I rolled my eyes, walking away from her. Sophie Devereaux wasn't important. She was nothing, nobody. A hand collided with my shoulder. I flailed around, raising my hand and sending Sophie up and backwards onto her ass. Sophie moaned in pain.

I slapped her. "Touch me again and see what happens. Don't blame me for this, you could have helped me. I was a child. You weren't."

She held her bloodied cheek. "If you knew what was good for you, you'd stay away from Klaus Mikaelson."

This time, I turned and didn't look back despite her desperate yells. "You don't understand! He has a secret! It will destroy everyone!"

I opened my eyes again. Davina stared at me unsure. "Are you're alright?"

"Fine," I smiled. Her eyes narrowed. She didn't believe me. I shrugged. "I had a run in with Sophie, warning me about the city's evil."

"She's right. I don't care what you think you need to do, stay away from them."

Davina brought me into a hug as I hid my face in her hair, nodding swiftly. I pulled away. "I do have to leave again."

"Why?"

"Marcel's party. He doesn't want the vampires there unprotected."

She frowned. "Be safe. I love you."

"Love you too, I'm always careful and I'll be back soon."

I kissed her forehead before quickly ducking out of the attic and into the hallway. My heart was beating fast. I hated lying to her, but she couldn't know. I staggered down the stairs. My head clouded with white fog. I fell forward, collapsing into the first row of the pews.
