"What is it Esme? You are making me nervous." I said.

"Well, perhaps you should be. A bit. It's not your fault though." Shit. What the hell was going on?

"What did you do?"

"How do you know I did something?"

"Well, if it wasn't me, and it is of my concern, who else could it be?"

"You have a point. Well, has your magic done something strange the last day?"

As she asked, I remembered what happened yesterday in my room.

"Hm, yes, it packed my suitcase without me saying or wishing anything."

"Then it worked."

"What?"

"I-I..." she hesitated. "I might have used a spell for you to be able to use the magic you had properly."

"Really? Thanks." I really appreciated everything she was doing for me when she didn't have to. But then I realized something was off. "Then why are you so nervous?"

"I might have stolen a potion from my mom. A-and the spell might be against the witches code."

"What?! Why did you do that?!"

"Shhhhh, lower your voice. She still hasn't found out yet. It was the only way you could use your magic properly. The potion is called "the Wishing Star". It's the most powerful potion that exists, and it can do literaly everything you ask it to do. But, for giving or unlocking magic there is a price."

"What price? I'll do anything to keep my magic." I said, being naive.

"It's not something you can do. It's something the potion does to you." This was getting more complicated by the hour.

"How... how bad is it?"

"It posseses you and you get turned to stone, for what I've heared. It was only done once in the past, and that's what happened."

"And... the non-magical... what happened after?"

"She is still trapped for what I know. But no one really knows who was the witch who attempted to change the non-magical. Or where the non-magical is. You don't have to worry about it though. As I heared from this incident I researched before casting the spell. I found this really old book in our library, that belonged to my great-great-great-great grandmother Cassandra. In this journey she explains how the Magical Council agreed that each Wishing Star produced should be added a curse, to avoid witches and wizards gifting or helping non-magicals in the ways of magic. It doesn't matter if you already got it, if you try to unlock it, the curse will afect you either way. But here I found a way to undo the curse without taking your magic away. I've already done it. But it's still illegal and we would get in lots of trouble for this, so please, I beg you not to tell."

I was still trying to process everything she had confessed. She could get into serious trouble for doing what she did to help me, a stranger she had met the day before. We could consider each other friends, but that didn't take away the fact that we didn't know the other that much.

"I-I don't know what to say. Thank you so so much. Of course I won't tell, you've helped me get into this wonderful world you have, I couldn't be more grateful."

"Don't worry. Now, lets go down to have lunch before my mother gets angry."

As the weeks passed by and the entrance exam quickly approached, I started panicking.  Not because I didn't thought I could pass the exam, but because I hadn't found any clue about time-travelling spells that would let me go to the other school. The witches code didn't say they were illegal, but if invented one, it should be reported inmediatly. That probably meant they hadn't been discovered yet. So, I'd tried to create my own. That wasn't going much better than searching for one.
