The evening breeze gently blew the leaves of the trees on the roadside. A few people were going about their business. Greenville, a town in the countryside of California is mostly known for its good living conditions and peace-loving residents. This has made it a desirable choice for foreigners looking for a good place to migrate to.
Greenville's populace is not so small that everyone knows each other but there is still this sense of familiarity among its residents. Tiana Adams and her family moved to Greenville when she was 8, 10 years have passed now and she is a senior high school student. They migrated from Nigeria and have been living here ever since.
The separation of her parents occurred 2 years after settling in Greenville. George her dad is a businessman while Rose, her mom is a Nurse. The business was not going as well as he expected when they first arrived. Rose was the one taking care of the family's financial responsibility then and they were always arguing. He wanted to move to another town in hopes of a better opportunity for his business while Rose was not willing to leave, this ultimately led to their separation.
Summer in Greenville is characterized by the rustling trees and endless blue sky which creates a beautiful and serene landscape. The streets and parks are filled with fallen leaves and the sunset gave the street a lovely view, the weather was just perfect.Tiana's pov
Walking down the street, I didn't realize how much time had passed. I saw a couple of number of people just enjoying the evening stroll with their friends or families, some are alone like me. I sighed deeply thinking about my decision and wondering if I might later regret it. The thought vanished as soon as it came because I am convinced I made the right decision.
Checking the time, it was 5:55 pm. I did not realize how much time has passed. I reached the bus stop soon and met a few people waiting for the bus. It didn't take long for the bus to arrive, and I found a comfortable spot to seat. A couple was arguing two seats away from me, something about how the man is not investing enough time into the relationship. I tuned them out, gazing out the window, I started recollecting my conversation with my best friend.

The cafeteria was not as crowded as it usually is, Most of our friends were not with us because they had to make preparations for the upcoming National competition. Our school lost in the final round during the last competition because of the mistake of one of the representatives. The teachers are putting a lot of pressure on us now to ensure no repetition of what happened last time.
As two of the representatives in charge of supervising and organizing students for the competition, Amy and I had been busy with all our duties in preparation for the competition. We only had about 30 minutes break before we had to run more errands. The principal promised us if we could win this competition, he will add more budget for our prom which is motivating my classmates to do their best.
After finishing the light meal we bought, Amy looked at me and asked, "so you have something important to tell me, what is it about?" I decided to tell her I am thinking of ending things with Brad. I looked at her nervous about her reaction because her take on this will influence my decision. My best friend has never been in a single relationship in her life but I find myself ranting to her about any issues I have in my relationships and life in general. She was surprised because she thought he was good to me and we didn't have any issues.
I told her " I don't think he is the one I'm looking for, I don't think I have feelings for him". He's sincere and genuine with me and I want to be truthful with him. She sipped her drink and sighed looking at me, her expression turning serious. I thought she was going to advise me against it and point out that I might regret this decision later.
She stared at me for a while and asked "are you sure about this Tee? You don't have any complaints about him ". I told her I thought I'll gradually start developing feelings for him because he liked me a lot and he was good to me, I believed he was what I needed after that horrible experience with my ex but I don't think that is happening. I don't want him to waste his time on me thinking we are something serious, so I want to break things off now because I feel very guilty being unable to reciprocate his feelings.
Amy's face was not giving away what she thinking and I had no idea how she will react. I can imagine how my other friends are going to do their best to talk me out of the thought of breaking up with him, he's the perfect guy for me in their eyes but my best friend was different. She is understanding and sees things from every point of view although she does not agree with me all the time, I feel she's my therapist most times who I rant to and she never judges me for my choices and actions.
She held my hand, smiled at me and said you know your feelings are the only thing that matters and yes, you should be truthful with Brad so I am with you to tell him how you feel. You are the one in the relationship, none of us is in your shoes, we cannot truly understand all your feelings and thoughts. We are still in high school, you do not have to do anything that you feel is not right. Although you might hurt him, It won't be easy telling him, he might even try to convince you not to but it is better than keeping this up and still hurting him later which might be worse. Ultimately, you are making the right decision.
I felt so relieved and reassured talking to her. She adjusted her seat, looked at me and said it's your life so your decision, I know our other friends will probably think it is not a good idea but it is ultimately your choice so you have to do what is right and won't cause you to regret later. I hugged her and we left to prepare to attend other classes. The couple arguing is not as loud as they were, looking back to see the man consoling his partner. She is calmer now. The bus arrived at my stop and I got down from it.
Walking down the road, I looked at the time to see it was past 6. I quickened my pace, it will take me less than 5 minutes to get home. It was dark and the cool evening breeze made me feel a little chilly but I was wearing a sweatshirt and jeans so it was okay.
I was glad to have arrived home, today has been tiring. I can't wait to relax and I opened the door. The light was suddenly switched on as I was about to climb the stairs.
