Because it was the day I almost died, this is the day that will be with me for the rest of my life. It was a fast shift mainly because the ER had been packed all day due to the illegal race car driving that occurs every year, and I was currently in the ER trying to see and assess patients as quickly as I could because the ER was also understaffed. As I was running around, I remember hearing a bang right above me, which caused me and several others to look up before we saw it "get back" I shouted as loudly as I could, which caused everyone to begin running terrified.

Hermann POV
The alarms went off as I was eating my lunch inside the kitchen area, causing everyone to stand up. "Helicopter crash at 1653 W. Congress Parkway," the intercom said, which worried me. "Wait, that's Chicago Med," I said, which made everyone stop and look at me. "Melissa is at work today," I said before sprinting past everyone to get to the truck first, but I was stopped by Cheif Boden. "You shouldn't come on this call Hermann, incase" Boden said which annoyed and worried me "incase what" I said angrily mainly because I was terrified incase Melissa was hurt we had broken up but I still loved her.

"I'm fine and I'm going," I said as I started getting ready. "OK," Boden agreed before everyone piled into the trucks and we drove to Chicago Med. "I'm sure she's ok," Mouch said, causing me to grit my teeth. "What if she isn't?" I said angrily, even though I knew he was only trying to help. "It's Mel, that woman has balls of steel," Mouch said, prompting me to turn and smile "thanks I'm sure she'll be glad to hear that" I said which made us both laugh. "Oh my god," I said as I looked out the window before the truck came to a stop and we all jumped out to see a helicopter crash into the hospital right above the ER, which appeared to be collapsing. "We need to get everyone out before this thing causes the whole building to collapse," Boden said as everyone began to head to their stations and I stood there frozen staring at the hospital. "Are you all OK, Hermann?" "Melissa is working in the ER today," I replied, tears welling up in my eyes. "She'll be OK if she's in there," Boden remarked, touching my shoulder.

"I can fit in Cheif," I said, which didn't impress Boden at all. "This building isn't safe, I can't risk you going in there and it collapsing on you too," Boden said, but I decided to risk climbing into the hole "Hermann," I could hear the Cheif shouting after me, but I continued to make my way through dust and rubble fogging up my path "Mel," I shouted as I climbed through on a hole. "Mel" I yelled again before hearing "Help" from a voice I had heard before. It was Will Halstead, the brother of a cop friend of ours who Mel also worked with in the ER. "Will" I yelled "yeah" I said as I crawled through faster trying to find him when I came across a leg "Will this you" I said touching the foot "yeah I'm stuck under some rubble" Will said as I tried to clear some of the rubble to create a route through until I reached Will.

"it's going to be ok buddy have you seen Mel" I asked as I saw Wills face drop "she was in here with me she "oh god" I said as I felt my heart drop "Mel" I shouted before reached for my radio "Captain i found my way through im in the ER I have a vic who's leg is stuck under a large debri" I said trying to make my way further "Mel is in here too I could do with some back up and the paramedics" I said trying to find Mel "I'll be back Will" I said looking at him before he nodded as I continued on moving obstacles in my way.

As I crawled through I saw a hand hanging out of a large pile of rubble wearing the engagement ring I had brought for Mel "Mel" I said trying to hold back the tears before I frantically began to move the rubble away "Mel" i said before I heard the building become more unstable and the building began to collapse further "a little help here" I said down my radio as I heard voices begin get closer "Hermann" I heard being shouted it was Dawson "here" I shouted feeling relief as i began to move the rubble away from her further until I saw her face "Mel" I said tears flooding down my face as I wiped the rubble from her face "it's going to be ok" I said as I placed a kiss on her forehead.

I said as I saw Dawson appear "we have a second Vic so far it's Mel" I said which made her face expression change "how is she, Hermann is she breathing" Dawson said questionably before I beant down and checked her breathing and pulse "it's there but it's weak" I said looking at her "Cheif we need a path cleared and more bodies in her to move this rubble before we loose both of them" Dawson said down the radio "on it" Cheif Boden replied to her. Eventually I managed to clear the rubble as I heard some of the guys enter the building as I leant down next to her "it's ok Herman we got this" Casey said as she stood behind and the others began to get to work trying to clear the rubble off Halstead and get a route clear out of here for us to get out and I just sat there "clear" I heard one of the guys said as the medical equipment come through.

"I'll carry her it will be quicker" I said and Dawson agreed as she got a collar on her before i lifted her up in my arms and began to run until I reached a hole which I climbed through and then kept running until I reached the ambulance "Hermann" they said as I nearly collapsed with her in my arms "We will take her from here" Jimmy said as he took her from me and packed her down on the gurney before I took off my mask and hat "it's going to be ok Hermann" Jimmy said as they loaded her into the ambulance.

We all followed in the ambulance until we reached the hospital they had taken her too as we reached the doors we all ran in I ran ahead as quickly as I could until I reached the reception "Mel Jordan she was brought in" I said out of breathe as the receptionist began to type "are you a member of family" the receptionist asked "no but" I said but before i could continue she interrupted me "unless your family you can't go in" the receptionist said as I heard a man run behind me so I turned around it was Connor "I'm Dr Connor Rhodes trauma attending at Chicago Med I'm also Mellisa Jordan's point of contact I have the right to make her medical decisions and I'm saying he goes in" Connor said before he looked at me and nodded "Thankyou" I said as me and Connor went to her room as I walked in I saw her and collapsed I knew that we weren't together but I still love her. "She's gonna be just fine" Connor said as he beat down and placed his hand on my shoulder.
