[2021] First Paramedic Experience

Sunny and her other colleagues at the fire station were simply having dinner around 8 pm when the siren starts to sound the whole building, getting them off their asses.

Sunny immediately ran towards the ambulance while putting on her official jacket. Hyun-Joo, her other colleague who is signed to be the driver gets into the ambulance first. It took them and the firefighters less than a minute to leave the station.

From the walkie-talkie, they were informed that a building was caught on fire. An apartment. Most occupants have exited the building but there are some still in the building.

An explosion was just reported an eyewitness witnessed a fire starting from floor number 12.

[Sunny's POV]

"How many injured people are we looking at?" Hyun-Joo asked as she drives, following the firetruck from behind. I hissed while looking at the small computer.

"13 people. Excluding the people who are still trapped inside the building," I reported.

"We will definitely need more paramedics," she replied.

"Yup," I nodded. I sighed and put on my face mask to cover my nose and mouth.

"Just follow my lead, you'll be alright." She said to me. I nodded, "Nae."

A few minutes later, we arrived at the scene and we could already see some occupants are on the rooftop, waving down to us and asking to be saved. The firefighters quickly do their job. In a few seconds, 2 more firetrucks and paramedics arrive.

A few firefighters were assigned to enter the building to put off the fire. Some firefighters are putting off the fire from outside. Another team used their ladder to save the occupants from the rooftop.

"Sun-kKyung get ready to take that kid," Hyun-Joo said to me while looking at the firefighters who are carrying a little kid by the ladder.

"Burnt on the calve," I said to her. She nodded, "Correct. What are you gonna do?" She asked.

"Cool her down, wrap it up and give her some painkillers because that is gonna be so painful without painkillers." I said to her. She nodded, "Correct."

Hyun-Joo and I brought the stretcher to the firefighter and the crying kid was placed on the stretcher.

"Hey, we're going to take care of you, okay? Don't worry," I said to her as Hyun-Joo and I pushed the stretcher into the ambulance quickly.

Hyun-Joo and I then treated her wounds carefully first. Other occupants were injured too. It turns out that they are the occupants from level 11. They were trapped and one of them had to use a steel ladder to get to the next floor because both stairs at the 10th level and 12th level has fire. A lot of them were injured.

So, after having more than 7 injured people in the ambulance, we decided to leave for the hospital immediately. The other victims will be taken to the hospital by the other paramedics.

If it comes to burning, it's very hard to put medicine on. No matter what, it's going to be painful. Moving an inch of the skin of the burnt is very painful.

We reached the hospital in less than 5 minutes and get the injured patients into the emergency treatment room. They will need a lot of doctors and nurses to treat the patients. And, a lot of painkillers.

I can't even imagine how painful it is to have a burn.
