The Dark Days: Love in the Shadows

Ch1

Four years prior:

"Ski give it back it back!" The voice of a young male could be heard over the twin giggles of two young women.

"But it's funny to see you so frustrated over a girl, little brother." The elder of the three chuckled as she pushed her fiery red strands of hair from her face.

"Not you too Storm!" Their younger brother groaned as he covered his reddening face in embarrassment.

To look at the three of them you would never know that they were siblings, let alone triplets. Stormy had fiery red curls that hung just past her waist, her eyes were mismatched. One was blue with a silver ring around its iris while the other was silver with a blue ring around the iris. Whereas Skye had taken after their mother, gaining the raven hair, which reached just below her shoulders. Her eyes were a beautiful cobalt blue, which held the same silver ring around the irises. Stryimir towered over his twin sisters at six foot two inches and snow white hair, his eyes were a vibrant silver unlike his sisters there was a blue ring around his irises. However, there was one thing that all three siblings shared. A gold speck was mid center of their iris, which seemed to sparkle when the light hit their eyes in just the right way.

As their mother watched them she couldn't help but smile at her children and how much they loved each other. However, her time with them was about to be short lived. She couldn't help but laugh as the four neighbor children slipped through the gate. It was almost instantaneous that all three of her children's heads snapped towards the other children. A small squeal left one of the girl's lips as they both hid behind their brother as if the tall male would be enough to shield them.

"What are you two doing?" Styrimir mumbled as he glanced over his shoulder at his sisters, before he turned back to wave at the four newcomers who strode towards them.

"Shut up Sty!" Skye whispered as she held onto Stormy, hiding her face in her sister's long curly hair.

As Stormy glanced around her younger brother's arm, her face began to grow warm, she could feel the tips of her ears start to heat up as well.

"Phoenix, Onyx, Halio Over here." Stryimir called out to the three males in a teasing tone while he tried not to gawk at Phoenix and Halio's twin sister. The younger of the three Everin siblings walked a few steps behind the four males; the other male, was thought by most to be their cousin Onyx. It was unclear why the young man had gone to live with his cousins, but the truth would eventually come out. It always did.

While the small group of four moved towards the three Shadow siblings, it was hard for Stormy not to glance between both Phoenix and Onyx as if something drew her towards both males. She could tell they were not related by blood in any way. Each one of the Everin family stood out in a unique way, Stormy and her siblings knew that, it wasn't that they had stalked them or anything. It was simply that they had been around them for most of their lives. As the small group came to a stop in front of the Shadow siblings Stryimir moved out from in front of his sisters leaving the eldest of his sisters exposed. As she glared her daggers at her brother who couldn't help the chuckle as he shook his head knowing that Stormy liked both males.

"I'm going to murder you for this." She whispered under her breath as she felt Skye pull at her shirt from under her hair.

"Murder who?" A soft baritone voice of Phoenix questioned as they stood in front of the Shadow siblings.

"PFFFT, Your sister can be a ..."Halio started to speak only to be cut off by a growl from his left.

"Don't finish that thought. I'm sure that Storm has her reasons." The gentle yet authoritative tone in Onyx's voice seeped through as he spoke up.
