Chapter 8
Hope sat on the couch flipping through the channels trying to look for something decent on TV, but nothing seemed to catch her eye. She tried to ignore her little brothers. They were running around playing tag. Today she had agreed with her parents to watch the boys so that they could have a day to themselves. She turned around and yelled at them to shut up. Of course they did the exact opposite and started yelling even louder. She was done with dealing with them, getting up she went to the closet and took out the buckets and shovels.
"BOOOYYYSSS." She yelled out, "Lets go make a sandcastle!" At once both boys came into sight and she handed them the bag. “Wait for me. I’m gonna put my bathing suit on and get my towel!" She ran up the stairs and quickly threw on her bright pink neon bikini. She pulled on a cardigan and ran down the stairs. The boys were on the deck talking to a taller figure she guessed was Liam. As she walked out to the deck Liam looked up and smiled at her.
"Hi Hope." She smiled at him; he had stopped calling her Star when he started hanging out with Madison. “What’re you guys up to?"
"Liam we're gonna build sandcastles!" Trevor said enthusiastically
"Come help us!!!" Jason joined in. Liam looked up at Hope as if he were asking her if he could join. She shrugged and started walking towards the beach. The weather was perfect today. There were no clouds in the sky and the sun was hitting strongly, but the wind would blow every now and then cooling you off. As they made it to the harder sand Hope set up her blanket. She felt self-conscious about taking her cardigan off. Liam however was shirtless and already helping out the boys dig up the sand. When no one was looking she quickly took her cardigan off and lay on the blanket. She complimented herself for putting on the tanning spray inside.
Time seemed to go by quickly and to her surprise the boy’s didn’t bother her once. They were to busy trying to impress Liam. She was tanning her stomach when a shadow came across her face. She opened her eyes to see Liam hovering over her. "Stop it! You’re blocking my sun!" He laughed and held out a hand to her.
"Come on Hope lets go swimming. I told the boys we could use my pool."
"I think I’m good where I’m at..."
"Oh come on.. "
"Fine." She huffed and grabbed his hand. She felt so naked. She leaned down to get her cardigan and felt someone’s eyes on her. She turned around to see Liam looking at her, his eyes skimming her body. "What?" She asked him making him snap out of his daydream. He blushed and looked away.
"Nothing." Liam blushing what? He never blushed but it was cute. "Ill meet you at my house." He said while jogging away. Hope sighed. He was so confusing. She grabbed her things and started to walk towards his house.
She walked around to the side where the pool was. Luckily both boys had already gotten swim lessons so she didn’t have to worry about them. She lay down on the recliner chair and continued tanning. She was dozing off when she felt water land on her body, within seconds she was covered in goose bumps. She stood up and looked at the pool. The two boys where busy jumping in the water, while Liam was underwater. She let out a deep breath and sat back down. "Come on Hope don’t be such a party pooper.” His voice said.
"Last time I checked this wasn’t a party.."
Liam got out of the water walking towards her. She picked up her feet and pulled them towards her chest making herself as small as she possibly could. His hair was slicked back and was already starting to wave. She looked into his blue eyes and could already see the mischief behind them. "You better not do what I think you’re gonna do."
"Why not? You look like you want a hug." He smiled and quickly walked over to her. He swiftly picked her up and slung her over his shoulder.
"Put me down Liam!" She pounded on his back. His body shook as he started laughing. He walked over to the edge of the pool and was about to throw her in when a voice interrupted them.
"What’s going on here?" Hope quickly turned her head to see Madison, her face looked totally broken. In her hands she was holding a pizza box and movies. Liam quickly put Hope down and started walking towards Madison.
"Babe, its not what you think.. It was nothing!" Hope felt like her heart was getting stabbed. It didn’t feel like nothing to her. The way that their bare skin touched each other made her skin feel like it was on fire. Madison looked over at Hope with hatred in her eyes.
"Liam I saw what was going on, you guys were totally flirting with each other and that’s NOT okay."
"Madison you’re taking this too seriously. Hope is like my little sister!" Those words echoed in Hopes head little sister, little sister, little sister, sister, sister, sister.
"Do you mean it?" Madison had her puppy eyes going on, Hope couldn’t help herself from rolling her eyes. What an act, Hope started to put her cardigan back on and told Trevor and Jason that it was time to go home. As they walked past Liam, Hope couldn’t find the strength to look him in the eyes or say goodbye. She could feel Madison’s eyes glued to her back as she made it to her house. She went inside and locked the sliding door.
She made the boys go shower up and picked out their favorite movie, that would probably end up putting them to sleep. As they took their shower she heard a soft knock on the door. It startled her because her parents told her that they would be home later at about 2 in the morning. They told her not to wait up on them. It was only 7pm. She looked through the peep hole and caught her breath when she saw his familiar tousled black hair. She started to panic because she was still in her cardigan and bathing suit. She was fighting against herself whether or not she should go change or not. She decided against it and opened the door. Dylan scanned her body from head to toe and had a shy smile on his face.
"Hey there Blondie. Looking good." She could feel her heart racing, she blushed and looked up the stairs.
"Hi Dylan! What are you doing here? Its kinda late..." She looked at the ground.
"You have no idea how many people it took me to ask, to find out where you lived..." She felt as if her heart stopped beating altogether and looked into his Ocean blue eyes that were darker today than they had been any other day. “Wow. I just realized how creepy I sound. That’s not what I meant… I..” He rambled on, which Hope thought was adorable.
“Dylan. I get it.” She giggled and he sighed in relief while leaning against the door. "Oh my gosh, sorry come in!"
Slowly he walked inside. He was wearing shorts and a stripped tank top. He looked around the house and Hope felt herself cringe when her little brothers ran down the stairs. They both jumped on the couch and stared at Dylan.
"Who are you?" Asked Jason. He was the adventurous one. He wasn’t shy to ask what was on his mind; Trevor on the other hand was always quiet. Kind of like Hope he liked to be Independent but whenever him and Jason were together Trevor’s personality became energetic.
Dylan smiled and looked at Hope. "I’m Dylan."
"Are you my sisters boyfriend?"
Hope gasped and gave an apologetic look at Dylan but he looked amused. "No Jason he’s just a friend." She said. She could feel herself blush.
"Do you play sports?"
"I play basketball."
"I like him." Jason smiled and went back to watching Cars. Trevor was already dozing off leaning against Jason.
Hope stood up and motioned for Dylan to join her.
