Chapter 4

At the Chemical Plant

I'm one of the members sent to retrieve the shuttle to get us into space. This is going to be fun, stealing a ship from the Chemical Plant. I run along some large pipes before my radio beeps

"Espio here. My team's engaging the enemy in the orbital tunnel! I think we can hold them off for now." I nod as i continue my way, using my wispon to destroy any badnik that stands in my way. "No. Wait!" Woah! Espio sounds concerned. Huh?! He is one of the chillest members of the resistance i know, what could make him so concerned- "Watch out! The masked one's here! The monster that took down Sonic!" My eyes widen. Oh no! I don't want to run into that guy here! My radio then beeps again, from a different user.

"Stay focused, rookie! We're off to find a shuttle!" Vector states, just before the radio goes quiet again. I shake my head and continue to destroy bots and make it easier to steal a shuttle. Something catches my eye in the distance. My radio beeps again. "Hey, that looks like a freight train!" Yeah... that seems obvious, Vector.

"It's carrying supplies. I don't think it's armed or anything." You don't think, Amy?! Well... it mustn't be that important to not be armed. I proceed to fire my wire at the train, landing sloppily ontop of it, almost falling off! I grip onto the side and climb up the side. Looking up from crawling, i see that the train is heading into a tight tunnel. In a panic, i fire my wire straight up and come across another track, with a train approaching! Firing my wire again, I barely get hit by the train, launching myself to a safe platform. Ok... that was a rush! I come to a complete stop to catch my breath. I hear another buzz from my radio.

"That looked fun. Wish i was there to see it happen!" Nightly comments. I roll my eyes.
"Yeah... you weren't the one that almost got run over by a train." I reply, putting my radio back in my pocket as i continue my way to where the shuttles are kept.

"Let's head in while Espio keeps them busy!" Yeah... good idea Silver.

"We need a shuttle to get to Sonic in time." Knuckles points out. Right. Time is ticking before Sonic is banished to Space. The thought of a world without Sonic is kinda terrifying.

"All quiet at the launch pad for now. Grab a shuttle before they sound the alert!" Amy radios in. Ok! Sounds good. I just hope i won't be the last one there. I continue running, feeling my adrenaline rise with each destruction of the robots. Heh! If only i had some spray paint on me!

"Perfect! They won't mind if we borrow this for a while." Sounds like Vector and his team found a shuttle. Awesome!

"Hurry it up, Rookie! Get outta there as soon as everyone's aboard. Step on it!" Yes sir, Commander Knuckles! But i do believe i'll be the last one there. It sounds as if everyone is there already! I finally arrive to the launch pad, seeing the shuttle we will be taking to space. Heh! This is going to be fun!

Arriving back at base to stock up for the journey to space, i head over to Nightly and the Newbie, who seem to be getting along great. I smile. Nightly looks over at me and comes over.

"Was your little mission fun?" She asks, teasingly. I roll my eyes.

"Ehh... it was thrilling... thats for sure. You coming to rescue Sonic?" I ask, expecting her to jump at the opportunity. She shakes her head, surprisingly! I tilt my head to the side, confused. "Why not?"

"I feel that im needed here..." Hmm... i suspect something else but i shrug it off. Its not my business.

"Alright, but I will radio when we get him out of there." Nightly smiles and nods.

"Thanks! That would be awesome!"

"Hey! Rookie! It's time!" I hear Knuckles from the other room. I look back at Nightly and wave as i leave the base.

On the Death Egg

Landing on the Death egg, the resistance splits up into multiple parties to search for Sonic. I head off into a hall with the least robots. I smile as i sprint through the hallway. The air rushing through my fur is such a great feeling! My radio beeps again.

"Listen up, rookie. Our other forces are busy dealing with enemies. It looks like you took the best route. It's up to you to save Sonic now. Find him!" uh... you just put a heavy responsibility on a rookie's shoulders but ok! I continue running through the multiple levels, looking all over for Sonic.

"The prisoners are being held in a kind of internment facility. Sonic is probably there too. Security is tight, so stay on your toes." Rouge advises through my radio. I will keep that in mind. Destroy any bots that stand in my way, find Sonic, and get off this Death Egg. Sounds simple enough.

"Nothing in this room, either." Silver points out.

"Man! We're still trying to fight our way out. They've got us pinned down!" Vector exclaims. Well, when we free Sonic, he is sure to change the odds in our favour. Geez... this place is huge! It seems bigger on the inside than from the outside. "Looks like this place was used up until recently."

"It appears that many of our brethren were held here." Espio points out. Looking around, i definitely wouldn't want to be held prisoner in a place like this.

"That's one more thing Eggman will answer for." Silver declares. Yes. Eggman will pay for all of this! For capturing Sonic, for taking over the world. For everything!

Turning down a hall, i hear loud alarms. That can't be good.

"Uh-oh... They're on high alert now." Yeah... thats sorta obvious, Rouge...

"I sense Sonic's presence. He's close!" Thanks Espio! That is great to know! I continue making down the hall. Ugh! Sonic! Where are you?! I start to slow to a stop on the catwalk near our shuttle. Ugh... back to square one! I grip my fur, pulling at it, pacing in frustration. I want to give Eggface his own medicine! Shove him in a cell and torture him for months! I suddenly hear clanking... uncomfortably close to me... flipping around, i see three Egg pawns have surrounded me. Must have done so while i was distracted with my frustration. Frick! I begin to back away, tripping on my own shoe, falling, and bumping my back against a railing. The bots are approaching, and as they're about to attack, i flick an ear when a blue blur darts in, destroying one, two, and then the third. The blur settles and this... is Sonic. I feel my heart skip a beat when he lands in front of me, offering a hand to help me up.

"Easy there! Everything's cool" i take his hand, accepting his pull up "are you here to rescue me?"

"Yeah, yeah i am" i smile, giving a nod "along with a couple others of the resistance" Sonic beams

"That is such a relief. It has been a while since i've seen a friendly face" i flinch when the radio buzzes in

"Hey Rookie, you still in one piece?" Knuckles asks, receiving a scoff from Sonic

"Oh, sure, don't even bother to ask how i am" Sonic's voice is coated in sarcasm, almost getting a laugh out of me. The radio then cuts to another voice.

"Sonic! I'm so glad!"

"Amy?!" Sonic sounds shocked to hear her voice from my radio. I shake my head as Knuckles continues to talk, and Sonic ignores him, and proceeds to ask, "Is there an exit around here?" I point down the catwalk to the shuttle we arrived in. As it prepares to depart.

"...but he won't be for long if he doesn't get off that egg in a hurry." Right... Knuckles was still talking. Sonic glances to my radio.

"Your concern is touching, Knuckles." I hold back more laughter as Sonic runs ahead towards the shuttle. I take off after him, even using my wire to get there quicker. We both get on and we escape the Death egg. WOOO!
