Regret

Valeria's POV:

"What?" I ask as one of my eyebrows raise.

"You need to catch up on today's lesson in detention," my English teacher says sternly.

"But I can catch up on my own," I protest.

"That's too bad," she says with a fake, obnoxious smile.

I stare at her until someone else walks in. I could recognize him anywhere.

He walks in with his head almost touching the door frame and dark locs in a bun. His baggy tee with a graphic middle finger on it covers his shape along with his black sweatpants.

I admire how he doesn't care what others think about him. One thing about him is he'll always be himself, even if he was on the verge of death.

"Wsp Valeria?" he asks calmly like he expects her to be here.

I spin around and reply, "This bum ass teacher won't let me go."

"Excuse me, language!" my English teacher yells.

A laugh echos the room as I sit back down in my seat with Omari occupying the empty seat next to me.

"Why are you out of all people here?"

I don't want to think about why I'm even here in the first place so I just say, "I fell asleep in class cause it was soooo boring."

He nods and faces me trying to see my face behind my hair.

I refuse to look at his face after what I've done.

Taking out my laptop and notes I try to copy what I missed from earlier but Omari slams my laptop shut.

"You're hiding something."

My mouth flies open because I feel stupid.

"I'm not hiding anything," I chuckle.

Instantly, flashbacks from my dream appear in my mind.

I think Omari's a mind reader when he says, "Yes you are, your voice goes higher and you laugh when you're lying."

I freeze. He gently tilts my head up to face him and moves my hair out of my face.

His dark almond-shaped eyes and long eyelashes plead that I should tell him what's wrong. I study his clear face for a few seconds and take in how handsome and perfect he looks. His jaw is defined and his stud earrings shine on his ears.

I wanna sit on his face.

Again, not the time.

I'm a book to him. He reads me easily and he's the only one that knows me inside out but I can't let him find out about this.

I swat his hand away and open my laptop as I turn back to face the board with a bunch of writing scribbled on it. If I look at him I might melt.

"Tell me what the fuck is going on!" he shouts as he slams my laptop shut again.

"Keep it down", my English teacher snarls.

"Is it your dad again?" he whispers softly.

I still don't look at him and murmur, "No, I don't care about him anymore."

"Did someone do something to you? Tell me cause istg I'm not playing."

"I'll be back in a bit, if you leave there will be serious consequences," my English teacher interrupts. Her heels click as she walks and she slams the door shut.

"Leave me alone," I hiss.

"Is it me?"

The silence is loud as it makes the atmosphere tenser than it already is.
