( Haruka's POV)

"Dear Haruka, I will be attending a meeting regarding work and will have to stay over at the hotel that it's being held. I won't be able to come back home in another two or three days, hope you can manage without me until then. Love, mom."

I read the letter that I found lying on my desk when I came back home after another long and boring day at school.

"Looks like mom won't be here for a while....even if it is just two days...man I'll be really bored!" I thought to myself as I read the letter.

Just then, my cat Chester came in and greeted me with a very sweet "meow". I looked down at him and gave him a warm smile. Ahh my favourite cat! I leaned down and petted him. I could feel him purring as my hands touched his big and soft stomach. Just then I heard another "meow" from behind him, this time in a little annoyed tone. I immediately recognised that infuriating tone, it was Chester's big brother, Timmy. At first glance at Timmy's annoyed face I just pouted, but then slowly leaned forward to pet him as well.
I petted the two cats for a few minutes before going and having a shower since I was all dirty and wary after school.
After having my shower I got dressed into a blue T-shirt, sporty shorts and wore my favourite black sweater for I was feeling kinda cold as it was raining all day-not that I don't like the rain. Rainy days have always been my favourite.
I then went to my room and sat on my bed and stared at the ground for a while. Chester and Timmy came in and looked at me with concerned expressions. Even though they were cats, I loved them so much and was so close to them I could tell what expressions they were making. I looked down at them with a questionable look.
"So hey...I was just wondering, now that mom's not here...who's gonna cook our meals for us?" I'm not that great when it comes to cooking, but maybe I could give it a try, though seeing Chester's and Timmy's devastated expressions, supposedly after remembering my last attempt to cook, I wasn't so sure about it.

By the way, I haven't properly introduced myself yet. As you all must know by now, my name's Haruka. My full name's Haruka Asano, but most of my friends call me Haru-chan. I'm 14 years old and I'm in my last year of middle school. I have short, black hair with ocean blue eyes. I'm....well.... height wise I've always been on the short side (at least my best friend is shorter than me) my favourite food is japanese food and sweets. I love cats, anime and manga and my hobby is drawing. My dad passed away when I was 11 years old so now it's just me, my mom and my two cats.

Well that's about enough of the introduction for now.

I got into my mother's oversized apron and started to get to work in the kitchen. I could feel anxious and depressing stares directed at me from my cats, but I just ignored them and continued. I took out a big bowl and filled it with some rice. I added some water and started washing the rice. Then after they were nice and clean I poured some water into it and kept it in the rice cooker for some time. After a while I took it out and then started preparing some other curries and chicken.

Once that was all done I began to serve for myself and Chester and Timmy as well. I put their rice along with chicken and curry-and yes they eat curry too- into their bowls and got ready to eat.
"Alright you two .... ready .... set ..... GO!" I yelled and we all started to eat together. A moment later, the three of us suddenly stopped, our eyes were wide open in shock. Then, all of a sudden, we all started to scream simultaneously.
"That....that....that was the best food I've ever tasted in my life...!!!!!" I screamed to myself in delight. The food was so spicy! I've always loved spicy food! I turned to look at Chester and Timmy and see how they liked the food, but the two of them looked more like they were about to throw up from the heat and spiciness. I just gave myself an embarrassed laugh. I quickly got them a bowl of water and watched how they went on driking the water like their life depended on it. Was my food that bad? Just then, Chester and Timmy turned and looked at me with "I told you so" faces.

Like this, as we were goofing off and being so carefree, we had no idea that another party was keeping a close watch on us...or rather, a close watch on me.
