Damien's pov

I slept in my bed, my precious Camilo cuddling up next to me. Obviously, I woke up.  Selkie was in the kitchen making breakfast, so I was able to snuggle mi vida a bit longer.

"Damien!"

I jumped and looked out the window. Mirabel was flying outside with Hugo in between her shoulder blades. I tried shushing her, but Camilo woke up and saw his hermana outside.

"Good morning Mira. What time is it?"

"Almost nine. Damien move your butt!"

"Why?"

"You said we could go foraging today!"

"That's right. Camilo, would you like to join us?"

"Hmm, I don't think so. I'm going to hang out with Antonio today."

"Alright love. Selkie made breakfast, would you like some Mirabel?"

"Yeah, I'll have some."

"Come in through the door. Downstairs."

I put a sense of urgency in my tone, and she quickly flew to the door. I quickly put clothes on. I turned to Camilo, to toss him his clothes, but he was propped on his elbows, face in hand, smiling at me. I smirked at him.

"Enjoying the show?"

"Mhm, very much."

I laughed and tossed him a set of clean clothes and his ruana. He got dressed and we made our way downstairs and saw Selkie feeding Hugo a dead Burlona Fae and a couple jazbay grapes.

"Oh, Selkie. If you come across anymore Bulona Fae, put their corpses in a sack. I need one of them alive."

"Okay Master! Selkie tried to make arepas! Miss Julieta is teaching Selkie to cook more human food!"

"That's great Selkie. Want to be her taste tester Camilo?"

"Heck yeah! I am the biggest foodie of House Madrigal!"

Selkie gave him a plate with oddly shaped arepas. A couple on the bottom were lightly burned. Camilo bit into one and chewed slowly.

"The dough in a little burned on the outside and there's not enough cheese filling. The seasoning in just just, the type of cheese used is perfectly gooey, and the dough has a nice crip layer under the char. For a first try, these are amazing. Good job Selkie."

Camilo patted her head and took the plate to the table. Selkie was glowing in pride.

"Selkie, why don't you take some arepas to Miss Julieta to show her your progress?"

"Doesn't Master need help foraging?"

"No, I'll be okay. If I need your help I give a tug on the contract."

"Okay!"

Selkie took the took back from Camilo and ran to the entrance to Casita with Camilo close behind her. Mirabel sat at the table humming a song with Hugo eating berries from her palm.

"Alrighty then. You ready to go Mira?"

"Do I need to bring need to bring anything?"

"That's right. Let's go to your room and pack your new supplies."I packed the fruit salad and arepas in a basket, shrunk it and made it float behind me. I followed Mira to her room. When we entered, the room sensed my presence and switched to the beautiful room I made automatically.

"How -"

"This room is infused with my core's magic. Because of that, because of my magic, the room is sentient to a centertain degree. It won't be able to move around like your Casita, but it is able to sense aura. If it's just you or me, or even both of us, the room will change by itself. If your in your room by yourself, but someone enters, the room will change back into the nursery it use to be. In that scenario, if you press the button with someone other than me in your room, the room will memorize that person's aura and key them to the room. However, the button only works when you press it. Anybody who presses the button, regardless if their keyed to the room or not, they will be cast out and never be able to come back in, unless accompanied by you. Is that simple enough?"

"I, think so. So! What do I need?"

"The noted I've readily labeled 'Foraging' and pencils. I can provide everything else for you first time foraging."

She grabbed a small leather pencil case and the notebook. I grabbed her text book on foraging and placed it in a knapsack. I made a dark, navy blue dyed leather bag with a padded strap with her name engraved on the front in pure gold.

"It's a witches tradition that the teacher gifts their student with a specially made bag. My Mama Sofia did it for me, and now I'm doing it for you."

My own bag was a plum purple dyed leather knapsack with my name engraved on the strap in lapis lazuli. I gave her the bag and watched her fling the strap over her head to rest on her shoulder.

"It's enchanted with a safety charm. That means that even if you throw it down or it simply falls, it'll float above the ground, protecting anything inside from damage. It also has an expansion charm, which means -"

"That it has more space than a normal bag, right?"

"Correct. You've been reading."

"Well yeah, the book of spells is very interesting. The spells are so amazing, I want to be able to use them already!"

"I bet, but you should wait for when I actually get you a staff. I'm only able to do spells without my staff because I've been practicing witchcraft for twelve years. I had a staff everytime I outgrew one, but I was being taught to use my magic without it. It's very dangerous. You magic could lash out and injure everything around you and you wouldn't know what was happening."

"What do you mean?"

"When your magic lashes out, you're essentially unconscious. Your body is fully awake and active, but your mind is taken over by your core. It happened to me once. I was practicing a high level teleportation spell without Mama Sofia around, and when I regain consciousness, I was in a crater with three elder witches. around me. A portion of Mama's home was demolished. I was laying in a five meter crater with the top radius about twenty meters around. Mama Sofia and her three friends erected four separate barriers around me. They managed to halt the majority of damage my core was causing, but I almost killed them."

"I'm so sorry."

"Don't be. I never was able to try that spell again even though I would be able to do it properly this time. It just makes me remember the fear in Mama's eyes."

I covered my face with my hand and wrapped my gut with my arm.

"D-Damien?"

I immediately straightened up and beamed at Mirabel.

"I'm fine. Let's gooo- where's Hugo?"

Mirabel looked by her ankles, but Hugo wasn't there. I looked behind her and found my rolling around on her bed.

"I think the first spell I'll tech you is how to fireproof your bed."

I gestured to her bed, where Hugo was now chewing on the burning blanket. After she scooped him up, I fixed her bed with a gentle flick of my wrist.

"Let's go."

I led her out the door into Casita and we walked down to the kitchen. Camilo was sitting in the den with Antonio in his lap listening avidly to his retellings Bruno's rat telenovelas. I snuck on on him and kissed his temple.

"Alright, love Mira and I are heading out now. I'll see you later yeah?"

"Yeah."

"I want a kiss!"

I looked down at Antonio's pouty and pecked his forehead.

"Bye Antonio. Keep Cami outta trouble for us?"

"Sure! Bring me back a souvenir!"

"Sure little man."

I ruffled his hair and made my way out of the Casita with Mirabel following close behind me.
