Sharon was angry, this was not the first time that her plans were frustrated because of Brenda's team, she knew she was needed at times, but becoming a nanny for Major Crimes wasn't her job. But here she was, unable to travel because of a case that shouldn't even be hers.

The Captain didn't want to miss another Christmas with her children, in the previous year only Rick was able to go and celebrate with her, Emily was on a tour with her group in Europe and was unable to arrive on time. But Sharon managed to plan everything this year to be together and now she was unable to leave because Pope decided to show his authority.

Sighing, Sharon went to the electronics room, at least not Buzz expressed so strongly his hate for her. With a smile she saw that he had a hat on his head and she smiled a little, at least someone seemed to still have the Christmas spirit. It was just a pity that she couldn't see the colors, her life has always been and will probably be gray.

Sharon, however, didn't care much about it, the illusion of finding her soulmate ended years ago. Like half the population, the Captain saw the world in black, white and gray. Mostly gray.

No one knows when it all started, only that everyone was destined to see gray until they touched their soulmate, so their world would turn into a great rainbow and fireworks. And Sharon believed that, she hoped to repeat her mother's fairy tale that when the older woman touches her best friend at school she saw her world become colorful.

However, as the years went by, Sharon discovered that this was not quite the way things were, this kind of connection was rare, you could touch thousands of people in your life and still see gray after each touch. But even though Sharon knew that, she deluded herself that she would be different and touched enough people to feel her hope run through her fingers, whether at college or at the cafeteria she worked at, she always expected to see the colors.

When she joined the police, she tried not to be terrified to learn that her partner didn't have a soulmate, because he was much older, and Sharon was never so relieved to see everything gray after she accidentally touched him, she didn't want to destroy one 15-year marriage because of that. And thanks to some arrests, she discovered that she didn't want to be surprised by a corrupt and murderous soulmate, so she started wearing gloves and long-sleeved blouses.

Sharon said this to her mother and received a speech about how she would miss meeting her soulmate if she didn't give it a chance, so the older woman passionately reported what it was like to see the rainbow or watch the sunset, and how beautiful it was receive a bouquet of violet flowers. That day, she took off her gloves and decided to give it a try, once again.

Her mother's passionate visions didn't have much effect two years later when Sharon was still alone and watching her friends and colleagues settle down with families and dream jobs, some of them with their colorful worldview, others living in their little gray world like hers.

Sharon was a little bitter when she entered the bar that day, all she wanted to do was forget her frustrations and maybe take someone home, she was young and single, nothing to stop her. After a few drinks she found Jack, he was fun and he didn't seem to care about all the illusion of soulmates, Sharon grabbed it tooth and nail.

However, much to their surprise, they found themselves enjoying the company and decided to get to know each other before a touch was involved, and that's how they stayed three dates later. They became friends and talked a lot about their gray worlds, they still thought about finding their other half, but the dream seemed distant and they wanted a family. Then, at the end of that encounter, they kissed and were not surprised when everything remained black and white.

Sharon and Jack were married not long after and built a beautiful family: two wonderful children and a stable life. And it was during this period that Sharon returned to wearing gloves, she didn't want to risk losing her perfect life. Unfortunately, Jack wasn't so careful, and even though the lawyer was happy, he showed up at home with a big smile on his face and telling how colorful the world was. The Captain tried not to resent it, but the pain was uncomfortable as she watched her husband leave with her soulmate, at least she had 12 years of marital happiness.
